  1. Would anyone happen to be able to report the quality of leather on a mini Kendal? I have a rather beat up Rio that I've used for a wallet and the pocket Kendal--if I can find one!--looks rugged and much more durable. I'd appreciate any feedback!

    1. The Kendal model has the oiled leather that ages beautifully (scratches and all). It is rugged. I don't know how it compares with the Rio but it seems more durable than my mini Kensington, Finchley, and wears better than the Domino or Chameleon. It has an elasticated pen loop which gives you more pen options -- but may give it a wider profile, about 1/2 inch wider (4.25" vs 3.75"). It does not lay completely flat; it does stay open but not flat (due to the full width wallet pocket). Good hunting!

    2. I have a Personal Hampstead, which was the precursor to the Kendal, and I love it.....as T-na says, it ages beautifully, an somehow manages to look even better when it gets a bit scratched and work-worn. Best of all, it lies absolutely flat when open. Highly recommended.

    3. Can recommend the Kendal - it is one of my favourite binders. Really tough leather!

    4. If you're looking for a brown pocket Kendal, I have one that I'm willing to sell. You can email me at kanalt17 at gmail dot com. I have some blank notepaper for it but no diary refills.

    5. T-na, David, ThisBugslife, and Kanalt: Thank you all for the information--I REALLY appreciate it!
Why does it seem as though all the 'good' binders are older ones?
      Kanalt--please check your email=)

  2. I have always been interested in how people use the day on two pages inserts. I think the layout looks so lovely, but I worry that I don't have enough to write to fill up two pages each day. I know the left page is for appointments and to-dos. Is the right page just a free/anything goes/overflow page or do any of you use it a specific way?

    1. I think, with the Filofax DO2P for personal, the right page is for to-dos, it has 10 slots, so on the left page the left column is for appointments etc, so I guess the right column on the left page would be for notes/information etc? I don't use them, but that's how I see them! :)

    2. Kate, I think you're right. Could someone please post up a link to this refill for me?......Many thanks!

    3. Hi David,
Filofax still don't have it on the UK website, but they have it on the French page: http://www.filofax.fr/store/diaryrefillsdetails.asp?productId=2416

    4. Gah!

Thanks Kate.....now all I need is a binder with 45mm rings to carry it round in.......

    5. Nice design....appointments until 8 p.m. (useful) and 10 to do items (possibly not enough, but could use the notes section below. Also there is space around the outside for jottings.

No doubt paper quality well down to the usual FF standard.

Still awaiting delivery of my Quo Vadis Wo2P columnar diary - I'm much more hopefully for the paper quality there, but worried the columns might be a bit narrow. We shall see.....

    7. Oooooooo

Is there a version which will print 1-up onto FF pre-punched single sheet paper? All that cutting and slicing isn't really my thing........

      Great design if there is!......

    8. There's a day per page version, see the diary inserts page tab at the top. But I can create a day on two page version for personal paper, it will not take too long to create. But it will be later today!

    9. Steve, a Do2P version would be fantastic, but I don't want to impose. However, if you feel motivated to do so, I could guarantee you at least one very grateful 'customer'!

Donation to Chimemwe for your work, if work it turns out to be, I think.......you are an absolute star

  3. I have been looking for a professional but still looking feminine for my work planner. We are given a planner every year but it does not have a cover. Just a normal book but with more information inside. Do you sell just the cover? I've seen your A5 cover (under tag A5) but I don think I need the ring in the middle. I just need to insert my planner.Sorry, I just found your site from a blogger and I'm not sure if you have this kind of planner cover.

    1. Hi Effa, this is not a retail (purchasing) website, just a fan blog. There is nothing to buy here.

But, there are loads of planner covers available from lots of different retailers. What are the measurements of your book? I am familiar with several different brands of covers for bound planners and can help you find something suitable.

  4. Hi,

I'm just a bit stuck on what different tabs I can have in my binder. I'm a university student - so have lots of placements, lectures, exams and assignments. I also do my blog.

So far I have a placement log, contacts, assessments, year planner and blog tab.

I wanted to put in a diary but will probably wait for 2014 now! Thanks

    1. Hi Sarah,
No other person can tell you which sections you need in your organiser, only you can do that! I would suggest using your planner for a few weeks, changing the order of the pages until you are happy with it, and then see a pattern to how it's set up- it will probably develop its own sections!! But don't over think it!
If you aren't happy with your set-up yet, and just want to try out different section arrangements, you can make temporary section tabs using half a post-it sticking out of the page. Then you can change it up until you're happy with it, and then make your own dividers or relabel Filofax brand dividers.
One tab I can see already is 'Blog'! Then you can have a home for all of your blog ideas!

  5. Here's a question many planners come with pockets of varying sizes. Do you fill them because you need to fill them with essentials or do you fill them purely because they are there?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I hardly use the pockets on any organiser. The most I use them is on the one I carry with me normally a personal size, in the pockets on that will be my passport and medical documents (prescriptions, eye tests etc) and that's about it really. All my normal cards I carry in my wallet! But everyone's mileage will vary on this issue. Go with what you are comfortable with.

    2. I use all the pockets on my Hampstead, for things like (but not exclusively) debit/credit/plastic cards, postage stamps, pre-bought train tickets, loyalty cards, driving license, supermarket vouchers.....everything I 'just might need' when I'm out.

    3. I tend to have a lot of cards and scrap pieces so I fill them with that, but not essentials per se. I am glad we have them though. I use a Finsbury as a wallet because of all the pockets.

  6. Seeing query about the mini Kendal reminded me that I have an unused pocket Hampstead, same type of leather. Sitting on the shelf, looking for a new owner? £10.00 plus shipping. Will probably put it in adspot.

    2. Ollie,
Athough I'd love to try that (esp. the price!) I live in the US so I think shipping would probably be an arm and a leg. Maybe Alex is on your side of the pond!

  7. Can anyone please suggest some pens for the Mini (non Filofax brand)? Specifically I just got the Chameleon very cute and flexible, but I do not think most store wide pens will fit into it. Thanks!

    2. Athena, I like Cross pens for my mini. I use a silver metal one, love the weight.

    3. Hi Tina! Which Cross pens specifically? I'll be on a lookout. Thanks! :)

    4. As a child of the Cold War, I am fond of the compact Fisher Space Pen. Comes in different colors, writes upside down, refills readily available, nice weight, about 3 inches long (all closed up). The clip tends to fall off, but it looks better without it-very reasonable cost.

I also carry a "Soviet Space Pen" aka "a pencil". Again, very low cost and has an adjustable length.

    5. I used to have a Fisher space pen! Bought it around the time of the first moon landings, so I guess I was about 12.... no idea what happened to it but I remember it as a very fine pen....

    6. I carry a "Yafa Poquito" mini ballpoint in my wallet.

    7. Athena,
Here is the best compact ball point pen ever: http://www.jetpens.com/Zebra-F-301-Compact-Stainless-Steel-Ballpoint-Pen-0.7-mm-Black/pd/5862
It's a Zebra so it takes a cheap refill. It works great!

    8. I use a Lamy Agenda in my mini filo. Writes nicely, looks smart, downside is refills are only available in black or blue so no fancy colours ...

    9. 1 I have the Chameleon Mini and the pen loop is elasticated so will fit a wider range of pens diameters than you might think.

2 The Kaweco Liliput fountain pen fits well, I use the EF nib.

  10. I'm a bit torn between using my personal holborn for everything or using a mini as a wallet too. i've tried it a few times and have needed info i didn't have with me when i left the personal at home (shopping lists, etc). What's the best way to do this without making it too complicated? Put all wallet essentials in the mini and then add shopping lists...? Any suggestions how to do it simply? Thanks.

  11. I'm new to filofax and I want buy an A5 finsbury. There seems to be very little stock in any of the popular retail online locations. Is that typical for this time of year? Do they get "new models" at the beginning of the year?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hello! I am new to filofax and my heart is set on buying my first filofax: an A5 Domino. I've been searching for a while now and I see only a black and red color for this size. Are these the only colors or does Filofax make seasonal colors?? Thank you for your help, and great site!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Or... if you carry a separate wallet do you carry you're filofax with you everywhere as well?

  14. Can anyone give me any ideas on how to carry my Lamy fountain pen in my personal Malden? The one with the big paperclip looking clip on the cap? It doesn't fit in the Malden pen holder, and the clip is so big the clip won't fit into my Day Timer pen holder...

    Any ideas appreciated....
