Filofax Nappa Review and Giveaway.

Like the Lockwood the Filofax Nappa organiser is a new addition to the Filofax range this year.

With the kind help of our friends at Appelboom in the Netherlands, I have been able to have a close look at a Zip model of the new Nappa range. Appelboom have a great range of Filofax and other brand organisers as well as a wide range of pens, all at competitive prices.

I hadn't spotted it from the Filofax catalogue photos but the Zip model is the the same design as the Filofax Lockwood Zip that I reviewed recently. In addition though the Nappa model comes in zip and clasp closures, where as the Lockwood is just zip at the moment.

Description

So this particular Nappa organiser is the Taupe and Black Personal Zip model. Shown here along side the Cognac Lockwood Personal zip.

As you might see it has the same slip pocket on the front outside cover.

And the zip pocket on the rear outside cover, like the Lookwood both pockets are only really intended for documents.

Internally there are 4 card slots and a full height slip pocket on the inside front cover and a full height slip pocket and elasticated pen loop on the inside rear cover.

Like the Lockwood personal it was good to see that the Nappa organiser lays quite flat with the minimum of training. With inserts in it lays even flatter than shown in the photograph.

In use

So how does this compare quality wise? I've not had a chance to use this one, but in my expert hands the leather is quite nice in terms of touch. Although it is nappa leather, it doesn't have the same tactile touch as my Van der Spek organisers, which are also in nappa leather, but there is a bit of a price difference I suppose.

However, the quality of the stitching on this model is what I would expect to see. The rings are the usual Filofax ones.

The leather doesn't mark as easily as the Lockwood does, that shows up finger scratches very easily, they disappear easily of course. So the Nappa will be quite hard wearing I would think.  So it should with stand daily use a lot better than some other organisers.

Availability

The Nappa organiser comes in Personal, Personal Zip, A5 and A5 Zip and in a variety of colours too. All black, chocolate and blue, taupe and black. the three colour combinations are available in all four variants too.

Prices on the Filofax UK website vary from £70-£75 for the Personal/Personal Zip sizes to £95-£99 for the A5/A5 Zip sizes.

However, those of you not living in UK would be better off ordering from Appelboom in the Netherlands, because their shipping rates are much better.

Prize Draw

However, before you go rushing off to order one, I have this Nappa personal zip available to give away to one of our lucky readers.

Comment on the blog below and I will pick out a readers comment at random to receive this Nappa leather personal zip organiser and the standard inserts it came with, plus I will add in some Philofaxy cards.

Please post your comments by Midnight on Sunday 28th September 2014, that is mid-night Paris time and I will announce the winner on Monday afternoon.

The usual rules will apply. Your comment must be on the blog... not on the Facebook post. You are allowed to comment more than once, but you will only get a single entry to the draw. No cash alternatives or substitutes. The prize draw is open to all readers worldwide. You will be given until midnight on Tuesday 30th September to contact Steve with your address so it can be posted to you hopefully on Wednesday morning, details will be in the announcement on Monday.

Again thank you to Appelboom for supplying this example.

  2. This seems similar to the design of the Fusion, which I always thought was a hidden gem of an organiser, but it never seemed popular. It is good to see it lying almost flat, which for a zipped organiser isn't that usual. The document slip pocket on the front is something I find very useful, especially on a Zip. I really appreciated it on the Cuban A5 Zip, and the Durham A5 zip, as it was so much quicker to slide a folded A4 sheet in the slip than opening the zip to access the main organiser.

  3. Comments are still doing the disappearing trick on the site. I now open Notepad and type into that, then copy and paste into comments. I'm logged in on gmail, and this happens every time - paste the comment into the box, press PREVIEW, it says PUBLISHING, then loads the page, without the comment. Same happens if i go straight for the PUBLISH button. Paste the comment in a second time, and it works fine. I'm having the same problem whether I use Mozilla or IE.

  8. This review did came at good time. I like the colour combinations of the Nappa planner's. But the layout was something which I wasn't sure.

  9. Being relatively new to Filofax and living in the Netherlands, I hadn't heard of Appelboom yet.

Also quite recently I decided to use my Holborn personal size also as a wallet, cause I love the pockets. Using it as a wallet made me realise it would be better to have a zipped Filofax in personal size. So this review couldn't come at a better time. The outside pockets are perfect for tucking away shopping lists and receipts. Both organisers look fantastic. Would be hard to choose, unless I could get a close and personal look at them.

    Thanks for the review.

  13. Hm, as some others here I am quite new to filofaxing (currently using a domino personal- the starter- as travel organizer and a personal chameleon aqua as day to day) I am looking for a good solution at work where I use a no name brand which annoys me because of bad quality ("leather" is glued only, no sewing therefore it wrinkles up the edges,...).
Maybe a Zipped one would be useful for all those stuff you carry around. I would love to test the Nappa and do a review (although I fear personal might be to small for work, but I will figure out if it's true in case I get the chance :-))

  20. I always like to see reviews of new products. I thought this one had a bit of the look of Chanel design about it, being in tan and black, elegance sprang to mind. Only one snag..... whoever wins it may need a new wardrobe, or if female, a new handbag too to match the colour scheme *cough* !!

  21. I was dithering over this model, so thanks for the review, Steve. I like outside pockets on binders, as I tend to carry the Dead Sea Scrolls around with me!

  32. Hello!
What a nice thing for you to do!
About a year ago, before I really started researching, what these
were, and how to use them, I
purchased what I now know is
a Personal. That is ok, I found
I could use it as a wallet. Set out
to find the different sizes, and how
to set up and decorate. Thanks to this site, I now have been completely amazed at how much I fell in love
with them all! Looking at this beautiful Nappa above, I'm so happy I can
    join the contest!
    Thank you,
    Debi Leonard

  33. The elegancy of the zipper hiding under the wings of the binder, oh my! The relief of having just a few credit card pockets, and to have the zipperd pocket on the outside: it is a blizz!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Nappa leather is so nice to the touch. I would love to win this

    ReplyDelete
  35. Absolutely gorgeous. Love the look of it, the credit card pockets, on the inside and the zipper around. I can almost smell the leather although I have never touched Nappa before.

Love the idea that it has a slip pocket on the outside and also a zipper to be able to put receipts etc without opening. Absolutely adore the black/orange one. Love it !

    ReplyDelete
  36. This organizer is beautiful!! Really love it!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think it is a great advantage to have a great organiser layout accompanied by different materials as seen with the Nappa/Lockwood models and the Guildfor/Cuban as well. Perhaps this will be widened: Choose a leather, a colour and a layout - have your organiser. As I think about it, Van der Spek are already doing this.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I like the outside pockets on this. Perhaps I could convince my hubby or son to start using Filofax if I won this.

  39. This looks lovely. Please enter me into the giveaway.

  42. Hi Steve, I've used my personal filofax for 30 yrs in woodlands and forests and was looking to replace when I came across your review and offer. Always wanted a zipped filofax but couldn't run to it. I would love to use this planner. Thanks for the offer and the review. brilliant.

  43. hi Steve

As ever, a great review. I respect the fact that Filofax are starting to produce more binders which might appeal to the male element of their customer base! t is pretty similar to the Lockwood, and I was impressed with that.

Four card slots in the front is enough, I think. I carry most of my plastic cards in 3-up card holders on the rings in the back of the binder. The whole layout looks very business-like, and I'd be happy to carry it.

    1. I agree David, my dad is a Filofax user and he is always saying there is not enough choice for males in the Filofax range. The most recent find I got him was a mini Kendal, last Christmas, which he could use as a wallet for his credit and loyalty cards and coffee shop cards and a shopping list combo. He uses a free with petrol tokens non Filofax binder at the mo, because he likes its layout, and the fact it was free was a bonus.... Heee Heee!!

  44. There's a new organiser called Nappa,
And any owner is made to look dapper,
With the feel and smell of the grain,
    It's overload for the brain,
Because it comes wrapped in a Filofax wrapper.

  76. Thanks for the review, Steve :-) I wonder how the Nappa leather compares to the Malden's one. It would be nice to have a leather organizer that can be hard working and not too delicate, so you don't have to worry about keeping it in the purse all the day.

  77. Thanks for the review. Looks and sounds like this would be a great organizer to have. And it just so happens I'm looking for a personal size Filofax. I have a Pocket Dakota now but in reality I need a personal size to fit my needs. Thanks for the chance!

  92. I went on the UK Filofax site because I saw this on another persons blog and loved it so much. I went back and fourth with myself about whether I should've bought it or not. I haven't yet but maybe I will be the apart of the chosen to win it! I especially love the touch of nude and the pocket makes it even better.

    ReplyDelete
  96. They don't look dissimilar. How do you feel about the zipper? I've never tried a zippered binder before.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Both are beautiful. The two toned leather gives the Napa such an elegant appearance. I would not mind carrying it around with me....

    ReplyDelete
  98. I think I'd like zippered more. It seems more secure.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Love the look of the Nappa, I didn't realise it was the same as Lockwood, but I'd be happy with either :)

  113. Am surprised at how flat it lays even with having a zipper. I just got a personal finsbury and have taken to leaving it open on the desk all the time as it refuses to open flat once I've closed it. I tried doing the manipulation and massage per a video I saw, but this thing has a mind of its own-- "It's alive" as Dr. Frankenstein said.
