Free For All Friday No. 378

It has been a week of high winds as 'Storm Imogen' (according to the UK Met Office) has traversed UK and France. One minute we have hail and wind the next the wind has dropped and we have bright sunshine again... very deceiving indeed.

Almost as deceiving as thinking you have the perfect planner set up.... but your eyes keep being drawn to a different layout. This happened to me last weekend. I thought I was settled in my A6 with a Week on One Page plus tasks. But then I created the A6 version of the Enhanced TM Week View, I managed to hold off a couple of weeks.

Last Saturday, I couldn't resist any longer and I printed off the remaining 11 months of this year and swapped over to it. As I use the same layout in my A5 I'm feeling more settled in this layout.

And I'm still resisting the thought of going back to personal size!

So have a great weekend... oh and it is Friday, so feel free to discuss anything planner related in the comments.

  1. I find myself in that quandary again. A lined 2DDP Piaric calendar has been my standard for two years now in my Day-Timer Malibu Desk, but since I picked up my first-ever Filofax Personal Malden I am torn once again between the two sizes and among different formats to account for the much smaller page size so that I don't lose productive use of my planner. My Piaric pages finish up in only 1.5 months, so I need to make a decision quickly, as Piaric pages take a bit of time to arrive once ordered.

  2. I have already planned next years set up! Going from a week on two pages to a custom design day on two pages!

  3. I just got my first A6 and I can't wait to print out more inserts and play with it. But then I think I need another A6 to hold the extra inserts! The spiral of planner addiction begins....

  4. As mentioned before, I've tried to balance my wish for having larger pages for notes, but without using A5, by using FC Compact size pages in a FF Personal size binder.

FC Compact pages are the same vertical height as FF Personal, but are roughly about a 1/2" (12mm) wider. I find that extra width makes a big difference in usability, at least for me....

    1. I too have gone to this approach. I have an old Kendal that I love in personal size. I find the FC pages are fine, but the tabs can stick out too far for many FF binders. The Kendal tends to be a smidge wider than normail FFes so it works. The regular Personal size pages are just too narrow for me. Plus I find that the FC method of loading a month or two at a time and having month tabs for future appointments a good compromise. Sure I can take the pages out for future months in FF but they aren't separated the way they are in the FC world. YMMV.

    2. Yes, the tabs can be an issue with some FF binders....and agree that the way FC handles month sections is nice.

One of the reasons I sprung for a van der Spek custom binder was in order to get the binder a bit wider to allow for the tabs.

  6. I started with an Erin Condren back in the late summer, and finally by January I knew it wasn't for me. It was too big and not customizable! In January I got my first Filofax, a patent Compact. Just today I got another patent Compact (different colour). I intend for one to be my "at home" planner and one to be my on-to-go planner. I'm so excited!

  7. I draw my week insert one month at a time on lined paper. I draw a line in pencil between two lines to create narrow ruled ones. The lines in pencil blend with the grey lines. It would be easier to design and print the pages from the computer but I like the quality of the paper.

I can view my Franklin pocket ruler only at the top of my Franklin pocket binder. I punched three additional holes on a personal ruler that is visible at both ends. I can also use it in a personal binder. Long ago I did not find many available accessories for my binder. I trimmed materials that I had for month dividers and a top opening envelope. Many people glue the month tabs to the pages but I would not want to do so repeatedly. I want to use a smaller binder for some occasions but have not found one that I really like. I would rather not compromise on any aspect of the binder. If the pen loop is too small and there is no zipper compartment I will not add pen loops and pouches to the binder.
