  1. Hi. We recently lost our home in a fire. My wife's much loved Cross Classic A5 pink Filofax suffered water and smoke damage but was recovered. I've let it dry, but am wondering if trying to treat the Italian leather is a waste of time--has anyone else brought a leather Filofax back to life after smoke/water damage? My own A5 survived with minimal damage and never got wet. Any suggestions appreciated.

    1. Hi Jeff
Sorry to hear about your house fire.

To restore the leather I would try something like Wheelers Leather Balm, it is a beeswax product, so it will help restore the leather and remove any smokey smells in time.

Also try letting the organiser breath in fresh air but not in direct sunlight as much as possible.

    2. Jeff I second Steve's recommendation of Wheeler's Leather Balm if you can get it in the US. So sorry to hear about your house, I hope everyone and pets are ok.

  2. I saw another recommendation for Wheeler's, but Amazon US doesn't carry it as far as I have found, but I'll keep looking. She went ahead and ordered another A5 planner, but her pink Classic was a gift from me and she said it was the best "practical" gift I'd ever given her so I thought I might give restoring it a try. Yes, we all got out safely, thank you.

    1. Yes that's the stuff, it lasts ages, just give the bottle a shake before you use it.

  4. Thanks for all this, y'all. My own A5 needs some leather care as well (wrinkled along spine) and I will report back if the Wheeler's helps. I found a great video that showed a Malden being restored with Luxol and saddle soap. Between writing for books and TV and now rebuilding my house, I am moving back to the A5 for all my daily planning next year (I had been using a small Hobonichi planner, love the paper and the design of the planner, but I need more room.) The tips on this website are just so helpful, thank you again!
