So below is a photo of a Saffiano Gold Limited Edition and will be released in September, it will be available in pocket, compact, personal and A5, prices the same as the other colours.
We have also heard that there will be a Nappa in Vanilla and Cerise, quite colourful! We expect the release date to be in September, but as always release dates and availability might change.
We will share buying links once these are available.
Filofax UK seem to have shutdown using social media and bloggers to promote their products, quite why they have taken such a drastic step I don't know. I wish they would engage with us and work with us again I'm sure it would be mutually beneficial to both parties.
Thank you for this "warning." I love the Saffiano line, so I patiently await these. I've got a few months to decide the size.
ReplyDeleteThere's also an exclusive to Paperchase one out just now!
ReplyDeleteIs there? Is it online? I'm not seeing any exclusive notes on the offerings on Paperchase's online site but maybe I'm missing something. Thanks.
DeleteAmanda I've seen the paperchase exclusives in a few Facebook groups, they are definitely in the stores already. The two I have seen are both diamond patterns, one was cream/beige and the other was shades of green/teal (that's how I remember them anyway).
DeleteI tried to contact the Filofax social media team in April about National Stationery Week but got no response to the emails I sent. The Facebook page is hardly ever updated and tweets seem to come from customer service now. I did wonder why no one was asked to review the new releases this year and why they haven't posted anything on their official blog since December, it's all a bit odd!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update Steve, and to the retailer who passed along the intel. I like the saffiano so news of the limited edition is interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt's mystifying why Filofax have become so lacklustre in promoting their products. Stepping back from social media and a large customer base like this is just shooting themselves in both feet in my opinion. In these economic times I'd think they'd want to embrace the enthusiasm of filofax fans, but they're doing the opposite. What're the odds of anything like that tour of the factory in Scotland ever happening again? After getting rid of their marketing side, I think the answer there is 'never', sadly.
Unfortunately it's not new. Filofax closed both their shops in London, whereas more far-sighted retailer Moleskine has recently *opened* a store, which was so crowded when I visited that it was hard to move around inside (OK, it's a small shop, but even so.....).
DeleteEver since the Presly Gang's acquisition Filofax have a history and policy of avoiding any and all opportunities to promote the brand at any cost. Poor Grace Scurr must be spinning in her grave........
So this bling-encrusted offering is Filofax's attempt to re-establish itself in the serious planner market? I'm off for a stiff whisky........
I hereby declare my interest in anything new from Filofax to be at an end. The vintage binders which date from the days when planners were for planning in will do me just fine.....
Maybe the people running Filofax US took over Filofax UK :)...sorry, couldn't help myself...
ReplyDeleteYou are partly right, I believe. RediForm (a Canadian company) completed their purchase of Filofax in April of this year. They were already a stakeholder. There have been changes in North America - for example Canadians still purchase from Filofax USA but Filofaxes are sent from Rediform in Montreal. After an unfortunate customer experience with them this Spring I asked someone in Montreal if customer service issues would improve. I was told no big changes are coming website-wise but that Filofaxes should start appearing in more office supply stores in Canada (staples for example). I have found ordering directly from Filofax so disheartening, I actually prefer to purchase from other Filofax enthusiasts on line.
DeleteI don't think that's quite right Dana. Letts Filofax Group was acquired by HSGP Investments in 2013. This was a new joint venture between Harolde Savoy, president of Canadian office products company Dominion Blueline Inc. (which does indeed own Rediform) and Letts Filofax boss Gordon Presly (hence HSGP). The ratio of ownership was not 50:50 but said to be 85:15 - so a strong controlling influence from the Canadian. I think that is still the same situation today.
DeleteDoes Filofax actually want to sell planners? I've been waiting for new stuff for a couple of years and there's only been a trickle. Every time I click on something to possibly buy it, it's out of stock. It seems to me like they don't really care if they sell anything. Surely that's not the case?
ReplyDeleteI have purchased more from FF UK and France than US. Of course, the shipping is high. But at least they have had product. As you say, US does not have a lot of models listed. And the ones that are shown are never in stock. Too frustrating!
DeleteIt is surprising that many people like the smaller space on the weekend in the Moleskine line. I only saw some photos of their layout on the site. I no longer use inserts with that lack of weekend space. The Filofax personal week with lines one is not much better in this regard, but they offered another insert with equal space on each day.
ReplyDeleteHoping Lockwood Zip in pocket will be announced one day... Loving my A5 :)
ReplyDeleteFilofax USA was bought by Rediform a few years back. They ship from nearby here in Texas. They Still have limited stock, and treat their customers as trash.
ReplyDeleteHere's the latest corporate info.
Filofax is a company based in the UK that produces a range of well-known personal organiser wallets. The organisers are traditionally leather bound and have a six-ring loose-leaf binder system. The design originated at Lefax, a United States company based in Philadelphia who exported products into the UK. The company also markets a range of personal leather goods and luggage under the "Filofax" brand.

These organisers are available in over fifteen countries in the following sizes: A4, A5, Slimline, Personal, Pocket, Mini, Compact and Pocket Slimline.
The name originates from an abbreviation of the phrase "file of facts". This name for the product was first coined when the UK company was founded in 1921. The popularity of the Filofax personal organiser grew enormously during the early 1980s due to its association with Yuppie Culture, where it was regarded as a "must-have" accessory, in the days before electronic organisers.
The company was known as Norman & Hill until the mid-1980s when it renamed itself after its most popular product. For much of its life it was based in South Woodford, East London. In the early 1980s it moved to Barkingside, Essex. In the early 1990s it moved its offices back to London and subcontracted its warehouse operation to Crick in Northamptonshire.
Famous devotees of the Filofax products include Lord Lichfield and Len Deighton.
Filofax is part of the UK-based Letts Group. In 2006, Phoenix Equity Partners led a secondary buy out of the business. The deal provided an exit for private equity firm Dunedin Capital Partners. In 2012 the company was acquired by HSGP Investments.[1]
Does anyone know if this will be available in the US? Can it be pre-ordered from the US?
