When I woke up the other day, I realised that I'd dreamt about Filofaxes! In the dream, I had returned to working for a larger organisation and had joined a new team, so there was lots of activity going on to set up the new office. When I returned after a meeting with my boss, I noticed with delight that a slimline Filofax had been placed on each desk and it was suggested to everyone that they leave them open next to them whilst working to help capture any notes during the day.
After having had that dream, I realised that I haven't been using my Filofax as a capture tool as much, so I am now keeping my Kensington open on my desk next to me and that small change has definitely been helping. When I'm busy, it can be easy to think, "I'll jot that down later", but if there is a blank page ready within easy reach that then removes any additional steps to get that idea out of my head.
Have you had any dreams about organisers or planning?
And as always on Fridays, please feel free to discuss anything organiser related. I hope that you have a good weekend.
Dreaming about Filofaxes is rather amusing! I have not had such a dream, I have had NIGHTMARES about work though, not quite the same thing. I was thinking today about repurposing one of my many Filofaxes into a sticker and ephemera organiser. Using clear plastc sleeves with holes punched to fit into the rings, and then stashing my stickers and ephemera in them. Not sure yet exactly how I wil accomplish this. If it works I may write a guest post about it... IF it works! Happy Friday everyone.
ReplyDeleteAnita, I loved the dream story — I once dreamt I'd lost my planner and woke up genuinely relieved to find it on the nightstand! Like you, I find the capture-tool habit slips when I stop carrying it everywhere. One thing that keeps me coming back is a little daily count box I draw in the margin: glasses of water, pages read, rows knitted — ticking them off each night is weirdly satisfying. It's funny how a simple tally can make the whole planner feel indispensable again.
ReplyDeleteHow odd - last night (Thursday night) I dreamt that I was walking through Filofax offices, and in the sales department sat Roland Orzabal (one half of British band 'Tears for fears', and an old college friend who I haven't seen for 20 years?! THEY were the sales department...😂😳
ReplyDeleteSalvador Dali and Thomas Edison both used a technique where they relaxed in a chair whilst holding a bunch of keys in one hand over a metal dish. When the keys dropped just as they were falling asleep, they were alerted in a state of hypnagogia, which they believed was when the mind was most creative. There was pen and paper handy to record the thoughts they were having at that moment.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Edison (d.1931) would have used a Norman and Hill binder, while Dali (d.1989) would probably have had a pink Winchester Ostrich!
