  1. Was there ever a post about cleaning up the ring mechanisms from rust?

  2. Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying Philofaxy - and lately I've been reading the archives. If you've never done this, I highly recommend it. The posts by the original creator of this blog, Philofaxer, are insightful and laugh-out-loud funny. (I wish he was still using a Filofax and still active here!) There are so many good tips and ideas in the archives - as well as daily here. Love!

    1. Likewise, I find some of his early posts quite amusing.

Loved the last paragraph of this post of his:

    2. I liked that one about the tyranny of the e-majority too. One of the commenters made the point: 'so much comes at me via Outlook, that I live with the inconvenience of extending it to non-work parts of my life'. I have exactly this problem - on the basis of one life, one diary, I'm stuck using Outlook (can't get at its data outside the firewall!) and end up having to create private appointments for things like walking the dogs, lunchbreaks, yoga practice etc.

Sadly, Philofaxer's suggestion of lobbying congress wouldn't work... most corporate environments aren't what anyone would call democracies!

I'd be interested in how other people get around this sort of issue in 2013. Has the situation improved or are we all still juggling multiple calendars or manually syncing?

    3. Paul - I use Outlook a lot - I work for myself but am often sent meeting invites etc. As far as I can see there are the following options:

      1. Manually sync by copying work commitments and deadlines to FF as they occur
      2. Sync outlook with phone
      3. Manually print out the next month/week of outlook so you can slip this into your FF to review when out of work place

    4. Loved the Philofaxer - his first post after a long absence when his son (?) was born had me in hysterics!

  3. *** I think I posted too late last week and didn't get a response, so I'm copying and pasting from that post because I still haven't found an answer to my question! : ) ***

Have a question about the Flex...

Currently I'm waiting on an A5 purple Malden to fall into my open hands (aren't we all?) to be put to work as a study binder, but in the meantime I'm considering keeping a Flex filled with my study notes to be hole-punched at fitted into the A5 when I finally find one.

My question is: Can the paper on the A5 Flex tablet be pulled out of the pad, hole-punched and inserted into an A5 binder? It seems like a no-brainer to me - A5 is A5, right? - but I wanted to be perfectly sure...as the Flex will be my fifth Filo in use. *blush*

    1. Yes that will work. I did the same with a Flex diary...

  4. I am bumping this question from last week as I also asked it very late:

I keep a list of websites and sign in info in my A-Z at the back of my personal binder - I have a number and just can't remember them all. However this takes up a lot of room which means I can't keep as much of my diary to hand as I would wish. Can anyone suggest another method of doing this? (I often need to access it from home but also when out and about or at a customer premises). Or has anyone come across a nice notebook (perhaps like field notes) that has an A-Z index that I could just slip in the back of my binder?

    1. Could you make your own A-Z tabs to stick directly to the pages? The dividers take up so much room that getting rid of them might be enough.

    2. You can consider using a adress notebook, with the A-Z tabs. Some adress books come wiht just lines, so you can add your internet adresses. Depending on the size of your filofax, you can buy a slimm adress book and slip it nicely in the planner.

    3. Moleskine is a good example. Has adress book with the tabs and lines. And also al sizes.

    4. I use a bound small notebook from Ryman (their own brand). It is just a simple lined notebook with A-Z tabs.

    5. The Moleskine Volant address books are very slim, you could easily carry it with you everywhere.

    6. I'm using the Slimeline Address tabs for this purpose. They have the lines ON the tabs, thus saving lots of room. For the AB-tab for example, I note A on the front side, and B on the back side. Works like a charm. And I'm not really bothered that the page width is smaller than my FC diary inserts. Who cares, as long as it keeps the engine humming, right?

  5. You could just add the a-z tabs to the Field Notes and there you have it.

  6. Thank you everyone that took part in a great Skype round-table on Sunday.

Even though our friends in Australia and New Zealand were not able to join in for what ever reasons. I have decided to run a two part round-table session next month.

The first part in the morning (my time) which will be evening Australia and New Zealand. Then the second part in the afternoon(my time) as previously for morning in the USA. Europeans of course will be able to join in with either session or both!

Let me know your thoughts on here. Thank You.

  7. Hi Priscilla
Someone asked me this the other day so they could use a Mini as a reward cards holder. I've not come across any CC holders for Mini's on any site as yet.

But take a look at the Filofax Denmark site:

Top opening envelope, which might work?

  8. Not really related to filos specifically, but I see that blogger has changed their mobile layout again. I am able to make the text larger like I used to do, so I'm a happy girl.

I'm also happy because I just made a new filo purchase. Looking forward to sharing with you all once it arrives. :-)

  9. I do have a question -- do we have any information on new products for the spring? I'm hoping that there will be a colorful selection of compacts but even if they appear in the UK, there's no telling what might surface (if at all) in the US.

    1. We do and we don't! We know there is going to be an Aqua Malden out this year, mainly from deduction that they have produced iPad covers in that colour. And it is fair to assume we will see an organiser in that colour.

I've had snippets of information from my usual spies.. but I'm being a good boy for a change! And I'm waiting (patiently) for the official press release which I'm assured should be fairly soon.

I know that FF UK are meeting with their new PR company sometime this week, so I suspect we will see something fairly soon.

How many of my snippets of information turn out to be accurate will be interesting to see..... but I would prefer to spread solid information this year rather than leaked information! Fun though it was last year.....

      Regards
      Steve

    3. AQUA MALDEN?!?!?! I just fell off my chair...

    4. Me too! Aqua. Yes! Malden. Yes! Sigh...Hurry please!

    5. I've seen the aqua Malden iPad holder -- it's an great color! But again, not currently available in the compact size. There's not much to choose from in that range that's colorful. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

  10. What about taking the card holder pages from something like these:

    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Wallet-card-holder-Korea-fashion-business-card-case-GENUINE-LEAHTER-card-wallet-DR-017/635164437.html
    http://www.promotionalpromo.com/wholesale/Credit-Card-Holder/index_5.htm

and affixing them, possibly with a couple of rivets or grommets, to a transparent flyleaf?

  11. Another possibility would be to affixe the Vi card holder to a flyleaf:

  12. Hi there! I'm a newby from Australia. I am wondering if anyone can assist with some info - I am trying to locate original manufacture dates for certain Filofax models. Is there a link/website or does anyone know where I might be able to get a list of models and the year they were first manufactured? Thanks in advance.

    1. I'd love such a list, and Steve will be posting something soon about compiling a database on Filofax models.

  13. A late answer but hopefully it'll still get to you :-)

I've bought the A5 version that holds cards vertically (called "A5 Business/Visiting Card Holder - A5" and available at http://www.filofaxusa.com/store/paperessentialsdetails.asp?productId=536 ) and cut carefully across the middle of the page each way, that gives you two double sided credit card holders that fit mini quite well (you will need to punch two more holes in each side but can use the three already there that were intended for the A5 rigs so it doesn't look messy at the end). Also you have two empty pockets left over that I found useful for holding bits and things after punching them as well :-)

  14. That makes sense, since the Mini is very close to A7 size. Great suggestion, swatibee! I have a mini on the way that I was planning to use in a similar way to Priscilla.
