  1. I have a love/hate relationship with my Filofax. Maybe I should call it an obsessed/hate relationship. I feel like I can't function or remember anything without it but I hate carrying it around. I'm a tech junkie but I feel way to scattered with a digital calendar and whatever additional apps I need to use to make up for all the things a digital calendar lacks. I also find it much easier to see the "big picture" on paper. At times I drive my self nuts trying to squeeze into a pocket filofax because it's so much easier to carry but there is definitely not enough writing space so i feel scattered and incomplete (just like I do when i try to go digital). I had this thought tonight... maybe having my Filofax with me at all times is making me more emotionally dependant on it...? I feel naked without it and all the "what if"'s start to kick in. I'm thinking I need to leave my planner at home (I'm a stay at home mom) for a week and see if I can get used to not having it with me all the time. Anyone have similar issues...?

    1. You and I might have been separated at birth! I have these same issues along with, do I need a book bound planner because it is more permanent? I cant decide between week on two and day per page!
The list goes on, so I will be watching with interest!
      Thanks

    2. Maybe we are triplets! I feel as you do Joannebu--obsessed, dependant, making myself and my husband crazy. I started this journey about three years ago or more when I had been using smart phones for organization. Every time I saw a new device, I had to have it. Before phones, there were PDAs and now I am at the end of my 3rd iphone next week. But as you have found, theres something to be said for the written page AND the electronic PDA. I am at a point where I am unable to use just one....but is that ok? Why not, except for the expense? So, i am culling down to 10 FF's and putting the money to good use. Its unlikely that I will buy more this season, given my choices. Lol

    3. Culling down to ten :-o
U.au makes me feel better, cause I don't have so many. I really love my arc notebooks but something keeps calling me back to filofax!

    4. Arc! Who said Arc? I just switched over from my beloved Filofax Personal Osterly to a Junior leather green ARC. Once I packed away my Osterly and moved completely into the ARC, it was like something had been wrenched from my soul. I miss it still. I could not seem to organize my filofax and get it to work efficiently. I think I was too concerned with it's beauty and creativity, although I wasnt big on decoration. The ARC is all buttoned up and businesslike, so it works, it works hard. The filofax is charming and beautiful, and knows it, and it doesn't work as hard. I've committed to using the ARC for the remainder of the year and not change the set-up (so far, I find that I don't need to). We'll see what happens next year.

    5. My compromise is that I keep all contacts on my iPhone and remove those inserts from my personal malden - but then I stuff it up with other sections. But I still try to keep appointments both on my phone and in my Filofax -- sometimes it's just so much easier to flip open the Filo and see what the week ahead holds. But for a quick phone number, the iPhone works best for me.

I am also a tech junkie - but for the first time did not jump to the newest iPhone, since my current one works just fine -- maybe being cured a little!

    6. Lifeconsidered, lets make a pact? I will pack all my Filofax yumminess away, and then its either flex week on two pages in the arc or moleskine weekly notebook large size, what do you think?

  2. The Loss of my dear (leather) Filo Friends...how to deal,(or get over it already!?)...A year and some months ago, I made the journey back home to be closer to family and just as I gleefully, happily arrived on the doorstep of my home state, it was discovered that my most valued leather friends were gone ! (please bear with me, though it has been over a year, I still tear up over this...)They were taken from me, and I've tried to be all open hearted about it - with thoughts of well, I hope the new owner(s) will cherish my Filofaxes and the thoughts, dreams, ideas, journeys, travails and diary entries within; I hope that the new owner will come to love the written word, pen to paper, and cherish the comfort of writing to, talking to a cherished friend, oh and all of those thoughts and bits of this and that that only my Filofaxes were privy to were now, out there ! Eventually of course, all of the 'good thoughts' were replaced with my real thoughts on the loss, and I'd get really really angry and cry very sad bitter tears....
I'd lost my cherished leather friends that I'd collected since the 80's and I miss them so !
What does one do with this type of loss, does it make sense that I'm still so saddened over this ?
Have I made new leather Filofax friends ? Oh yes ! I now have my very first A5 in a Zippered Durham, a personal Westminster zippered (I do love the zippered ones lol!)and a personal size Dakota in Sand...I am carrying on, each day gets easier and this site really helps me ( I so enjoy seeing other Filo lovers!), but tips on how to handle this, thoughts, advice would be appreciated!
I'm new here, hope I posted this in the correct area of Free For All Tuesday... thank you for listening ! Happy Days to All !

    1. Huge loss for you!! So sorry you've had to endure this. What kind of person would take someone else's organizers. Terrible.

    2. I would be broken hearted if I lost mine, too. So sorry.

    3. How awful - it saddens me that there are people out there who do this sort of thing :-( Big hugs

  3. While I don't condone violence ever I think I would have been on a witch hunt to get them back. Did they get taken during transit? By the movers? I don't really have any advice. I would be just as devastated and probably not as gracious as you are about it. I, too, am sorry this happened to you!

  4. I recently took delivery of my long awaited Malden compact zip in Navy and I have to say that it is beautiful - definitely worth waiting for. Never having had a zipped Filofax before, my only complaint is that it doesn't zip very well past the pen loop - is this a common issue with zipped binders? I've stopped putting my pen inside the binder just for ease - it doesn't make any difference to me as I carry a pen around in my bag anyway but I could see it being an issue for someone else. I'd be interested to hear what everyone thinks.

    1. I have had, at one point, a compact Pennybridge which I bought on Filofax.no as it seemed it wasn't available anywhere else when they were first released. I quickly sold it because I found it extremely annoying to have to unzip it everytime I wanted to look at something or write a little something. Granted, it took less than 2 seconds, but still, much more time than "pop the strap open and reach for your page".

And yes, just like you, I found that it was hard to zip/unzip when the zipper was near the pen loop, unless you had a slim pen, and unless you thought of "tearing" the zipper away from the pen loop as you zip/unzip your organizer.

These two things alone were driving myself mad, and I used the Pennybridge only for a few days, and quickly sold it. Never had a zipped organizer since, and never will...

  5. Does anyone know if the holes on the Avery Mini Binder Accessories (5-1/2" x 8-1/2")line up with the holes in an A5 Filofax? I see the Avery 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" Business Card Pages on staples.com and wanted to put them in an A5 Filofax. Thanks.

    1. They probably don't. Most of the Avery 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 accessories fit the rings for Daytimer and Dayrunner and Franklin Covey.
