  1. Can anyone tell me more about the Filofax Soho?

  2. I see everyone has these black filofax cards. What are they? I've never seen them IRL and somehow I just really want one. Even if I don't yet know what it is ;)

    1. It's just a card that comes in certain models. It has a pattern to it and says Filofax on one side and talks about the leather in a few languages on the back.

    2. Mine came with my Malden. (Sorry for the double reply, this site wasn't cooperating with my iPad.

    3. I have one that came with my mini Chameleon. I thought it was just instead of a ruler as the binder would be too small for one.

  3. Does anyone else have trouble commenting on blogger with iOS devices? Frequently, I'm writing a comment and it basically stops responding and my option is to post or close the browser. Totally annoying. Luckily Steve let me know that I needed to be signed in before starting a comment, but that hasn't totally solved the issue. Although its saved me from losing comments that would just diaspora otherwise.

    3. Not. Sheesh! That time I had to close and come back. This is why I usually only comment on Facebook, Steve. :-)

    4. Looks like they all get added to the comments

    5. Lori - I write all my comments from an iPad and experience the same problems. The reply box freezes if you make a correction or try to edit the comment before posting. The solution is simple. Press the keyboard button (bottom right) and then go back in by touching the text where you want to change it in the reply box. Also, in case you're not signed in, before posting your finished comment, highlight the comment using "select all" and then "copy". If you don't do this you can lose your comment whilst signing-in! If you've got a copy, you simply press "copy" into the now blank box and your comment will magically reappear! Hope this helps!

    6. Blogger is Google.
      Apple is apple.

It's a plot to convince us to ditch the fruit and go android, but fruit is sweet and juicy and fabulous wheras androids have Positronic brains and belong on the USS Enterprise - D.

    7. I do the same thing as Tim in regards to editing. However, I will say that I've done the copy/paste thing before signing in and still have lost comments. So now I make sure I'm always logged in before commenting. It's a pain but its a work around for now.

    8. Steve, they all got added because I perservered. Too bad my subscription to the comments by email didn't come through.

Tim, thank you for the information. I'm keen the copy comment for posting at all times since I have lost several, but I haven't tried the hide keyboard trick.

  4. I'm trying to work out how to make inserts for an A5 Domino to use as a writing journal. (Trying to get more serious about my writing, which means being organised!) I'd like to make inserts with space for story title, where it's been sent (one can hope!) and whether or not it was accepted. Also if it was an entry in a competition. So that would be say, three columns with the title column being wider. Does anyone know how much space I should leave for holes to be punched?

I'm thinking that character sheets, and plot sheets etc. would be something else to make as well. Unless you know of someone who has already done all of this. I don't want to try inventing the wheel if someone has already patented it. Thanks!

    1. Hi
Generally for A5 I use an 'inner' margin of 15 mm to allow for punching the holes. An Outer margin of 8 mm and 10 mm top and bottom margins.

If you use the 'Mirror' margins options that swaps left and right for inner and outer. It means that when you go from odd numbered pages to even number pages the margins swap over so that the punched holes side is always the wider margin.

    2. I'm doing character sheets and plotting sheets at the moment. They're all pretty story-specific and amateurish, so I won't share lol but they're easy to do. I print on A4 and cut in half. My character sheets have fields on the front and blank lines on the back for bios and I lay the page out in two columns with the wider margins on the outside edges of the landscape A4 sheet. Fields/front on the left, lined/back on the right. Then I print both sides, cut the paper, and I have a perfect double sided A5 character sheet.

  5. The introduction of the over-hyped Quo Vadis diaries into the US market turned out to be a bust. One could buy some inserts, but to actually get a diary, one had to buy the whole binder. Just what I need, another 6 ring binder. This whole thing seems a bit off to me, want our great paper, well here it is--for $70.00. I would not go so far as to call it extortion, but----

    1. I know they didn't mention diary inserts in their earlier posts on the blog, I didn't think for one moment that the only way to get a diary insert would be to buy a full organiser of unknown quality!

I considered for a moment starting up a little on line shop to sell just diary inserts but to be honest it would be difficult to beat the prices and shipping costs of Amazon FR or Agenda-Discount http://www.agenda-discount.fr who stock the full range of inserts in all the sizes.

    2. Hi
Apparently they are on back order, you will be able to buy the diary inserts on their own. They just failed to mention that in their post!

    3. Here is the comment! Yes according to QV the diary inserts will be available for separate purchase soon when they get them in from France, which should be soon. Excellent news!

    4. That's definitely good news. It's a bit tiring to have to print my own Chronodex sheets and then cut them down to size and then hole punch them (and the Filofax punch I got turned out to be rubbish). But then again, I will have to print cores on page-per-day inserts anyway. Oh, dear.

  6. How bad do the rings have to be for you to consider unacceptable? I bought a new personal Malden Ochre recently. The leather has just the right amount of creasing for my liking (you know how the creasing can vary) but 2 of the bottom rings have a slightest gap - about 1/2 mm - and slightly misaligned. I can turn the pages fine and so far do not seem to get caught.

    Will they get worse?
I can still return it for a replacement. But with my luck, the replacement would be a less pleasing (to me) creasing version or one of the harder newer model, or with worse rings. Not looking forward to the back-and-forth trying to get a perfect Malden Ochre.

So would you accept almost perfect rings on a Filofax that you otherwise like (and hard to come by until they get more in stock)?

    1. Considering that there are absolutely no Filofaxes available locally in my country, and I have to pay for shipping and wait for quite some time before I could actually get my hands on one, I'd say that if you don't notice the gaps each time you use the Malden, then that's acceptable. There's actually no such thing as a perfect Filofax, if we are to believe all the testimonials about ring problems.

    2. If they paper doesn't snag, then I'm okay with it. Sometimes opening and closing the rings several times (without inserts) can help. I had a beautiful purple Malden with perfect leather, perfect looks, perfect color. But horribly gappy rings that couldn't be overlooked. My replacement is okay, but not near as nice looking. So if you love it, keep it. :)

  7. Hi over there, there are actually many posts talking about the pockets / minis used as a wallet. I´d love to know if there´s anybody actually using a filofax as their only wallet (including coins and banknotes) for a long time or is it just something everybody tries out but doesn´t keep?
Any "perfect" solutions for where to put the coins?

    1. Hi Veronica,

I have used a pocket urban as my wallet and organiser for about 6 months until I decided to change to the personal sized organisers. Since then I use my personal for notes to keep and a small malden purse for the coins and maybee some small folded notes as pocket money. On the weekends when I do not need the space of my personal organiser - I change to a mini Finchley as my purse. That works well for me so far. Hope it helps.

    2. Solutions for where to put coins? A filofax with a zip pocket in it! I was using a personal Portland as my wallet - it has a lovely big zip pocket in the front - but it wouldn't fit in my favourite handbag so I bought a pocket Kensington. Not only does this have a perfect size coin pocket in the back, but it has the full length notes pocket behind the rings. I haven't had it long, but can't see why I'd change. It's actually the most perfect wallet I've ever had.

I don't know which of the modern pockets have zip pockets. I don't know why it's not standard.

    3. I've been using my mini Chameleon as a wallet for probably a year or so now. The only time I use my old wallet (which is just a very simple cloth thing with no card sections or anything) is when I go away so that I can carry my passport in it as well, and even then I often don't bother and switch to my personal Holborn Zip instead.

  8. I have been looking for months now for a hole punch that can punch oblongs as well as circles, in order that sheets that can fit into the personal rings can also fit into the A5 rings without any extraneous holes. I have posted this on the Facebook page, and Steve already told me he knows no such thing (I was afraid I was also beginning to suspect as much myself) but maybe some of you out there in faraway lands of exotic stationery paraphernalia could find out if such a thing exists, after all? Thanks!

  9. I'm looking for some cute, colorful dividers with monthly tabs to use in my personal sized Amazona. Is there a company who makes something like this? (No, I'm neither crafty nor patient enough to make my own. ;-)

    1. I don't know if you'd consider it cute or not, but DayTimer Flavia line is colorful. Their Portable size is the same as Filofax personal.

  10. Hi guys - I'm looking for a 2014 diary insert for my personal size Filofax. Other than the official Filofax diary, which other diary inserts would you recommend? I'll probably stick with a week to view, but could be persuaded to experiment. I actually find week to view a little cramped but it's just about OK for me. A system with a notes/to do included in the diary would be great.

    Thanks/Diolch - Rich

  11. Hello all! I am a relative newbie to the Filofax world...although I already have 4 Pockets. I was wondering if there was a list somewhere of discontinue models or models that are going to be retired. Sorry if my terminology is off but I appreciate any assistance you can offer.

    1. Cara - retailers get an annual product catalogue that tells them about new models and planned launch dates as well as lines and colours being discontinued. Unfortunately this is kept well away from customers! The first we learn is by way of press releases or when a product is advertised at a big discount or no longer available in a particular size or colour.

    2. Thanks so much Tim...I was hoping that there was a list somewhere. Do you happen to know if they are discontinuing any of the Maldens?

  12. Dear Filopeople: I'm a Franklin Covey kind of guy with a Filofax question. The website describes the week on 2pp. calendar, white pages version, as having an "extensive Christian calendar." Does that same sort of calendar appear in the cotton cream week on 2pp? I see one difference between the two (white pp. runs Sunday-Saturday, cotton cream is Monday-Sunday) and that made me wonder what else was different between the two. Thanks for your help.
