Free For All Friday No 296 by Laurie

Summer is in full swing here, and I find I'm hardly looking at my planner at all while my kids are out of school. Which can be dangerous, of course, if there is anything important in there. But so far I haven't missed anything, and our schedules are wide open so I don't have to look at my planner all that much. I'm enjoying not having to rush to activities and remember all our normal-life day to day details. It's a fine balance though, between the freedom of summertime and still keeping up on my responsibilities like paying bills on time and keeping the household in reasonable order!

Have you found you are looking at your planner less these days? Has it gotten you in trouble?

And as always on Fridays, feel free to discuss anything ring-binder related.

  1. My menu planner is certainly full of salad ideas and summer fruit puddings. Also ideas for quick grill meats and kebabs. So if anything I am looking at the planner more than usual, so that food does not go to waste in the heat. Christmas is my danger time for missing appointments, for although I have a small family everything just gets manic beyond belief then. Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine. Here in the UK it is gloriously sunny. xx

  2. I'm envious! Summer may be time off for a lot of professional folk - such as academics, teachers and office based people. However, for many, such as those of us in tourism, leisure and hospitality, plus industries such as arable farming and students with summer jobs and planning for the new academic year, it's a very busy time! In tourism in particular (and fashion and feature magazines too) we're busy filling summer vacancies whilst also planning for Christmas, winter investment programmes and finalising marketing plans for 2015. So all planning and project management systems need to be running smoothly right now! But I confess I am heading off to the Outer Herbrides for a week of family cycling very soon. That has taken some planning pages too!

    2. I've been to North Uist and Barra. Both lovely. Completely get away from it all places. Can get windy and rainy, but nowhere more beautiful.xx

  3. Yes, Tim, those of us in public libraries are in high gear also. We have our big summer reading programs to stage. It's very busy and they keep heaping more stuff on us. Benchmarks, now. Glad I'm retiring this October! But I'll be glued to my planner every day until then.

  4. Yes, for we social workers, there is no rest for the wicked. Sigh. Need my planner and look at it daily!

  5. I have been using my planner (compact Luxe) more because I have more projects and appointments. I bought several extra inserts for this year and I placed two of them, a week and month calendar, in my slim Bosca planner. I am writing some spending, news, weather, outdoor upkeep, etc. on these extra calendars. I don't need to write or carry this information in my compact Luxe but I like to have it in my slim binder. I also don't have enough room on my Wo2P calendar in my Luxe for that info even if I wanted to write it there. A long time ago I found a month template online that I used briefly to track household chores. I printed it at the end of the month and looked at the long list of inside and outdoor chores. I thought it was an organized way to track chores but I just found it to be time consuming. I am using the template though for projects. It is very convenient because I can download and modify it.

  6. Summer is chaotic because the kids are involved in camps and working for anybody that calls. So I need to know which kids are where and when they are available. We have had an unusually wet year and everyone needs help mowing, trimming, and weeding.
