This is a catalogue I've seen before and it is beautifully illustrated and printed on glossy paper. Notice how the leaves take centre stage at the front of the brochure, and the range of wallets and binders is quite simple. Winchester still has five pockets at this time, and its sibling Gloucester is well described. Quarter inch rings are available across the range. I love the binders with no fastener. Thanks for sharing it.
This was surely the height of the Filofax range. What a great catalogue, and wonderful to actually see a Datex system in the flesh, as I always wondered what it looked like, and more importantly, what it was for. This was the year I bought my first Filofax, in September, although I couldn't afford a Duplex in those days (More's the pity!). I also wish they would re-introduce the Jotta, I've wanted to find a replacement for years. It was such a useful thing. Thanks for this great post.
Like lots of things in the catalogue, I thought I could use the Datex system. But the only thing I might have used it for was to monitor a chess or squash ladder. A jotta would have been more useful.
Lovely bit of nostalgia there. This was the first catalogue I ordered from. It was from the ECL bookshop in Bristol ( I think it was Bristol!) . I had a Jotta and lost it somewhere! I'm still looking for one on eBay!

ReplyDeleteYes - that's the (only) one I've seen Dirk. I guess there must still be some surviving today somewhere though.
DeleteIt want it all!
ReplyDeleteI agree Nan, it all lokks tempting. I've had this catalogue since 1984 and for a while it lived inside my binder. I still view it from time to time.

ReplyDeleteDid you notice the name on the passport on the front cover? A nice reference to history.
ReplyDeleteThe style of the Jotta, with four corner flaps rather than the later top and bottom flaps, is also noteworthy.
