Free for All Friday No. 329 by Nan

This blog is all about acquiring and using Filofaxes of our own, but have you ever taken a peek inside someone else's? At meet-ups, we pass our organizers around the table, and the general rule is, well, it's a free for all! I've noticed people are very open about letting others look inside.

Have you ever looked inside someone else's Filofax? Or found one on the street and looked to see what you could learn about it's owner? How did it feel to read someone else's organizer -- or have yours read?

  1. For me, having people leaf through my main Filofax would literally be akin to leaving my bank and credit card statements out on the coffee table for perusal!

  2. I've had a few quick peeks at colleagues' planners when they've been talking to me. But not sneakily! Sometimes they need to book a meeting room, which as admin is a job I do, and they're checking their diaries with me or discussing something they need doing. A manager has shown me his lovely vintage limited edition and let me run my hands over it (and I quite realise how this sounds, LOL).

  3. I have JUST done this!! I was at my hairdressers and the lady ahead of me was booking her next few appointments and fished out a lovely, stuffed filofax which I sat admiring. I couldn't quite work out what kind it was so I then said, "I'm just admiring your filofax... is it a Cavendish" to which she looked a bit perplexed and said it was definitely a filofax. Anyway, she then came over and showed me it - leafing through it and showing me the lists she kept and explaining the coding in her diary. I sneaked a peak at the inside cover and it turned out it was an Identity. She had had it for years and kept notes of all the birthday presents she had bought for people since 1988 in it!

  4. I'm with gmax on this. I wouldn't let anyone look through it. I make personal notes in it for one thing, plus I'd be fielding questions like "Why do you write THAT down in it?"

Because its designed to meet MY planning needs.

  5. I have seen some people's binders who wanted to show them to me. I discuss my inserts or ideas to a few people I know well. Also since I have one pocket binder and design my inserts I am not that interested in viewing so many of them. I am almost finished designing my insert for my Franklin pocket binder. I made one last important change. It is a combined week on two pages and a month diary on one page insert. The month diary is at the beginning of the layout. In the past I used the common month on two pages calendar with boxes. This time my month page is a different format and does not have boxes. I hope to finish it soon.

  6. I am very careful to only put things I don't mind others seeing. Any personal bits are either coded, on my computer, or sent up/out to Evernote. I don't even put my "Dear Diary" entries in there.
