  1. Dear Philofaxy Community,

Does anyone have experience with a FF slimline? I recently moved from a Holborn personal to a Holborn slimline. However few pages I put in though, they keep getting stuck when trying to leaf through both back and forward. It seems the rings are simply to narrow to accommodate FF personal size paper when lying open. Pages keep getting in each others' way in the middle it seems. Is this a known problem? Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    1. I also use a Holborn Slimline daily but have few problems. It has oval rings which are effectively 11mm pushed out to 13mm. This means that leaves have to be passed through the 11mm section when moved from one side to the other but have more space when lying normally. I find that as long as you don't cram too many pages it works very well. I keep my current week on two pages and fold out annual planner pages in the middle so that the organiser naturally opens to these. This saves flipping backwards and forwards all the time. I also have a Holborn Personal but hate the large (23mm) rings. They are just too big and cumbersome for me to write around - especially being left-handed.

    2. The large rings on the Holborn personal size were also a reason for me to try the slimline. I have really trimmed down the number of pages ( 44 pages including plastic flyleaf, 2 foldouts, 3 dividers), and they fit comfortably on one side of the rings when closed, but turning the page is a real issue. How many pages do you have in your slimline?

    3. Micha - it's definitely the oval rings that causes this problem you have. I've tried leaves in my Slimline Cuban which has 11mm circular rings and the pages slide more smoothly. However, the Cuban won't hold as many pages! As requested, I typically have 1 x clear flyleaf, 4 x card dividers, 2 x plastic credit card holders each holding 6 cards, 1 x year calendar pullout, 1 x ruler and 54 x paper leaves (standard 75gsm Filofax or 80gsm printed myself. By the way, I always flop all pages onto one side before closing the Holborn and have fitted an elasticated closure (Domino style) to the spine - but that's so I can slot my iPhone into it.

    4. Hi Tim - I'm impressed with what you manage to squeeze into the slimline. I thought the problem came from overstuffing, so I paired it down to 44 pages. But I guess that's not it. Is there a trick or hack to turn pages over to avoid the issue of pages getting stuck in the middle and in each others' way? Thanks again.

    5. Micha - as per my early comment, I've not noticed a problem. I think I just subconsciously press each leaf gently across from one side to the other. I think the Holborn Slimline was one of the best organiser designs from Filofax - and I say that knowing there are a lot of Malden fans on here! Good luck with your Slimline!

  2. Has anyone ever put a Moleskine diary in a Filofax? As in punching the pages, etc. I was just curious... (Before I buy and butcher a Moleskine)

    1. Ken from Oz is your man for this! Search for his You Tube videos. He has now gone further and removed the rings in his Pocket Malden, leaving his punched Moleskines to slot in the pockets - Flex style!

    2. I saw his video where he'd done that (and actually did that with a DayTimer pocket I had) but I hadn't seen his other videos *wanders off to search YouTube*
      Thanks!

  3. Hello!
I'm sorry, if this question might sound stupid, but it kind of bothers me: I'm a "vertical 1Wo2P-Woman", with time specified on every day but WE, and when I'm looking for planning-inspiration, all I see on those many (many, many, maaaany....) plannersites (blogs, instagram-accounts, Youtube-Channels etc.) is a horizontal 1Wo2P-weekspread. Is there anyone who's using vertical weekspread with date and time on it? Or: why is this horizontal format that popular? I'd like to understand, because I myself need those time adjustments throughout the week - and yes, I'm also using 1Dpp. : )

    Thank you a lot,
    Kathi

    1. FF doesn't sell a vertical timed weekly in Personal size - they do have one style that rotates to that view, but the only vertical timed I've seen were sold by FF Germany and Sweden.

The layouts I've most commonly seen are Franklin Covey compacts, or DIY FIsh has a vertical timed layout.

The A5s come with a vertical timed weekly, so there are more videos showing that.

I use my own vertical layout design in an A5.

  5. Hello Kathi, I use a vertical layout of Wo2P Franklin Covey Compact size which is 4.24” x 6.75”. Even though these are ½” wider than FF Personal, space is still very limited. I can’t profess to know why some prefer a horizontal to a vertical layout, but my eyes and brain tend to work best when going from top down. I've tried a horizontal layout, but I tend to get lost in the open space. Add in my handwriting, and the page becomes a hot mess. There are advantages to both layouts, but I prefer the vertical. Hope I've helped.

    1. Hey Carla! Yes, this is what I was looking for - more "vertical"-users, hehe. : )
I hope it's okay to PN you via google+? Greetings, Kathi

  7. Since it's a FFT - what's the address of City Organiser? The link in the Reader Under the Spotlight is defunct.

I'm asking because I SHALL BE IN LONDON THIS WEEKEND! (i live in the usa :D) and of course I must to walk into a Filofax store lol.

    1. Sorry to disappoint you but both the Filofax shops in London and City Organser have all closed down in the past five years, The move to Internet shopping made them all unviable. Folk were spending hours in City Organiser handling planners and then going off to order from Amazon. It's all been very sad. If you've still got a local stationers that stocks Filofaxes, we should support them!
