  3. Hi there! I saw on the ring chart that some personal Filofax models have 30 mm rings. Anyone know which particular ones? Thanks!

  4. I have just bought a lovely A5 Time/system binder on eBay & I was wondering if many people own one by this company?

    2. Oh yes, I remember now! Thank you, Steve. I will be re-reading Tim's guest posts here about the company.

I have also contacted the Time/system to ask if they have any more info about the binder as it is discontinued, & have asked if they would like to take part in our Retailer Under the Spotlight series.

    3. Time Manager and Time/system have always been rival brands. Both David and I were long standing Time Manager users.

    5. I have a A5 size Time/system set up that I use at work. It's all right, but I'm such a Franklin Covey person that I really prefer my Classic size FC planner overall. I give credit to Time/system, though--their customer service people were great helping me to set up my planner.

    6. The time/system customer service folks here in the States are phenomenal! Proactive, helpful, courteous. I bought their A5 inserts to try but then realized that I just can't work in A5. David Popely also bought a set of their A5 inserts recently. It is a nicely designed system.

    8. Time System is as far as "system" goes in the paper planner world. Beautifully designed and truely integrated. There is a story circulating on the net that David Allen co-designed some of the inserts for the T/S system. And of course FF's Time Management system is a cousin of T/S too.

That said, following a fruitful discussion I had with David Popely on the Time Manager, Time System also struck me as overly complicated in terms different types of inserts and no real explanation (anymore) on how to use them. Time Manager is easier to understand, whereas Time System trumps in goal setting. I still love their inserts. And happily adopted some TMI thoughts into the equation.

    9. I don't have a TS binder, but I *do* have a full set of calendar and other refills, which I use (or try to use) in my Finsbury and/or Bridle. I have to say that I've found the system very hard to use, as there is almost zero 'official' data available for how it is 'supposed' to work, other than a couple of rather perfunctory PDFs on the TS website. Even email exchanges with James Noon, who, one story goes, was instrumental in the design, was unable to supply any light on the 'original' working of the system. I have heard rumours of an old user manual somewhere in the US, but so far have yet to track it down.....I agree that the TMI system is much more easily grasped (plus the manual is still in print!)

    10. David, following your reply I took the liberty of contacting TS and ask for the elusive manual (seeing that we both have the quest for understanding TS better). They promptly came back to me with a link to their site. I contacted the German firm, but the UK link is this www.timesystem.co.uk/index.php?page=56. According to their email this information is exactly the same as the old manual that was provided with the system. Not nearly as much information as the TMI manual, but it does hold some insights on application and sofort

  5. I have a new A5 Saffiano. So far, so good, but the ring mechanism is so stiff that I am not able to open the rings using the tabs at either end of the ring mechanism. Even if I use my thumbs, and apply all my strength and weight, they do not open. Any suggestions? I am able to open them by using the actual rings themselves (I know it's a bad idea and can damage the rings). Any suggestions?

  6. Hello,

I'm going to be travelling to a 3 day archaeology conference next week. What size/how many Filofaxes do you recommend for travelling, planning which lectures to attend and note taking. My first conference so want to be organised and make the most of the opportunity. My workhorse is an A5 Malden, should I take it, or leave it safely at home? I do have a collection of personals and pockets and a clipbook ideas on inserts also welcome, thanks, Julie.

    1. Hi Julie

If its a serious conference, which it sounds like, I would definitely take your A5 Malden. I find Personal size very 'difficult' for note-taking, and tend to take one of my A5s to 'serious' meetings. Obviously there is a portability downside, but assuming you'll be staying in a hotel, or on a university campus, that shouldn't present too much of an issue.

    2. One further thought.....if you're going to be flying to your conference, put your A5 in your cabin luggage so it doesn't count towards your 'hold' allowance.......

  7. Hi David, thanks for your advice. I love my Malden and have used it before to take lecture notes, so will give him a clean out before I go - the beauty of rings for moving things in and out. I have also found that my iPad mini fits on the back pocket, handy as there's an emphasis on using multimedia during the conference - not sure how that'll work, may be distracting, reading tweets etc. As a Post Grad student, I'll be bussing it, so not looking for too much weight. Thanks
