Free For All Friday No 364 by Laurie

Ah, 10 years of Philofaxy! How time flies. I can't say I've been reading it since the very beginning, but nearly: as I wrote in my Philofaxy journey post yesterday, I first discovered this wonderful blog in 2007. Back then there weren't many other planner/ planning blogs, unlike the glut that exists today. I was desperately searching for tips on how to use my Filofax when I stumbled across the blog. And my life has never been the same (in a good way!) ever since!

When and how did you discover Philofaxy? How has it changed the way you use your Filofax/ plan/ live your life?

And as always on Fridays, feel free to discuss anything ring-binder related!

  2. I found it when I was searching online for a better iphone calendar/time management app- I thought there might be a Filofax app so when I searched for it google brought up a picture of a rapberry Finsbury in the search results: it was love at first sight! I clicked on the photo, and it came up with Philofaxy! Ahh, a home for people like me! I went out the very next day and bought the personal raspberry Finsbury, and I've been reading Philofaxy everyday since! That was 4 1/2 years ago...!

  4. I stumbled across Philofaxy in the very early days. I was searching for up-to-date information on the Time Manager system. The founder had sold the business and the new owners were rapidly phasing out the sales of organisers in favour of the more lucrative management consulting side of the TMI operation. There wasn't anyone writing about using a Time Manager but the original Philofaxer blog came up on searches. This was 2006 and many of his posts weren't even about organisers/ planners! It was still great to follow, although it was a long time before I felt able to post any comments or contribute a guest post. I still read Philofaxy every day (through Newsify) and we are lucky that the current team has shown such dedication for so long, keeping the blog interesting and relevant to the loyal band of readers. Well done to you all!

  6. I do not remember when I initially saw the site. I have spent more time designing and creating my insert as I have viewed different posts. I drew my layouts on lined paper instead of creating computer versions because I do not want to spend more time on the computer. I like writing on paper with a nice pen. I am not that interested in buying all of the paper products. I find nice handwriting on paper appealing.

I am using my Wo2P insert with longer lines in my Franklin pocket binder for the rest of the year. However for next year I would like to downsize to a smaller pocket binder that allows me to remove currency from the interior quickly. In outdoor meetings removing bills from the long pocket in my Franklin binder is not convenient. If I switch to a slimmer pocket binder I will not be able to adapt my week layout to a smaller page and retain the same daily space. It is neat to open the binder and see the details on my week format; however it may be better to use more technology in combination with a smaller pocket binder.

  7. When did I discover Philofaxy?.....Late 2007/Early 2008.... I definately remember this because on a trip to London the summer of 2008 I walked into the Covent Garden retail location of the Filofax store and told the shop lady that this was "Nirvana" to the Philofaxy community. I had not yet entered the world of using "multiple" filofaxes - I was a one planner girl!! For Christmas 2008 I asked my boyfriend for my second filofax - an A5 Mustard Finchely which still has its place next to my pc's keyboard at home. Due to Philofaxy, I have a lovely but small collection of binders which were mostly gifts from my boyfriends - Christmas; Anniversary; Valentines Day. I have learned tricks and have stolen ideas from everyone including you, Laurie!! Today, as it was when I first started using a Filofax back in the earely '90's (I was trying to get pregnant in '92-'93 and used one of the inserts Filofax published back then to help track my termperature!" my filofax is "my book" and if anything I've also picked up from the readers is to "name" my Filofax.... Green Kensington is "Bronte"; Red Lizard is "Lady Grantham" Brandy VDS is "Agnes" and Mini VDS is ":Lil' Min".... Anyways, it certainly has been an adventure! Thank you Steve, Nan, Laurie and Anita for making a few minutes of everyday in my life since the early '90s a bit brighter in the am when I first log in!! xoxoxoxoxo
