Free for All Friday No. 365 by Nan

Friday the 13th -- An unlucky day in many cultures. In some tall buildings, there's no 13th floor as the superstition about the number 13 is so strong.

Do you have any superstitions about your Filofax -- like keeping all the information pages that come at the front of the yearly diary even though you never use them?

Of course, since it's Friday, all discussion is welcome!

  1. Very boring, but I have no superstitions relating to my Filofax (or to anything else)......

  2. I actually like 13. My house number is 13 and I think it is a lucky number. Other superstitions? About the only one I really do believe is - never challenge "worse..."

  3. So, following on from yesterday.....can anyone locate the FF 2PPD diary on sale for 2016? I now believe this is always referred to as Day Per View (thanks Guido), but can only find the A5 version on Amazon (and on FF UK), not the Personal version.

I know FF had a DPV/2PPD diary for 2015 on sale in France, but they don't seem to have carried over into 2016. I've also seen a beautiful Rakunen/DaVinci version from a few years back, but have been totally unable to find a supplier into the West!

At the moment I'm struggling to find the FF reference for 2015 (although I had it last evening), but will try to forward later

Any advice gratefully received. Many thanks!

    1. Hi David, you may look for the reference no. 6841716 - at least the 2012 edition was no. 6841712.

    2. There is no 6841716, neither on filofax.co.uk nor on filofax.de, but Google returned some eBay result.

    3. Thanks so much for looking, Dirk.

A google search on that reference returned several results of diary refills in various sizes, across various formats, but no Day Per View Personal.

Sadlly, this does seem to be yet another case of Filofax trying their hardest to drive customers away and dissipate loyalty.......what a ridiculous state of affairs. The refills is available on the US website, but they don't ship to the UK. I found the same refill on eBay at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Filofax-Personal-Size-2016-One-Day-On-Two-Pages-Appointment-Diary-ref-6841716-/121536890430 from a supplier who *may* ship.

In my case, FF's constant drive to alienate their customers is all becoming too much (again) and as I already have a TMI dated calendar set for 2016, I may well just decamp into my TM.......or if I decide to try A5 again, get either a FF DPP diary (the DPV having been made virtually redundant in the same way) or (better) invest in a TimeSystem update.

As I have already said on yesterday's blog, however, I despair of Filofax. They truly do not deserve customers at all.

    4. Hi David,

Are you looking for the Day on One page, or the Day on Two? I know of two sellers on eBay selling the Personal DO1P --

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/121672660844?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

      (in blue font)

      and

(in black font) This seller states he will ship internationally.

I've bought from both sellers and had no problems.

    6. Hi David,

The reference is 6841716, I have found it online available in 2 page per day from a US site which ships internationally:
      http://www.fahrneyspens.com/Item--i-6841716

and also from a french site (not sure if they ship to the UK, my french is not that good!):
      http://www.papeteriedudome.fr/specific/formats/agenda.jsp?id=384&offset13=20
It is listed about half way down the page.

      Hope this helps,
      SMW

    8. I just received an email from the French Filofax customer service that personal size 2PPD is now available after all from filofax.fr. you can search on the product code 6941716 or use the link http://www.filofax.fr/one-day-two-pages-diary-personal-68417-pers-51dr.html#year=2016

    9. I may have found the same inserts at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00ZF7QU0W/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1447434615&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=filofax+day+on+two+pages+2016&dpPl=1&dpID=41EUmhsUf1L&ref=plSrch

      Hope this helps.

    10. Just a footnote to this.....and a cautionary tale. I ordered the 2PPD from La Pepeteried du Dome in Paris (Montparnasse) on 14th, and by today it had not arrived. I called the shop direct (their number was on the receipt) and a very apolgetic lady told me they would have to refund me as the refill is not available this year. So it appears the 2PPD Personal is now extinct outside of the US. It's tempting to fall back on the kindness of Crofter, who offered to buy one and ship it out to me, but I've decided that there is little chance of the 2PPD surviving as a species and that it would be better to move on from it. Very disappointed with Filofax, constantly narrowing the range of refills.....the future lies with other brands, for me at least

    12. Thanks Steve, I appreciate the thought! However, printing, cutting and punching isn't for me (I don't have the time, what with running a business and numerous other interests). I'll have to look elsewhere for 2016, I'm afraid.

  4. I actually worked on the 13th floor of a building in Manhattan's Rockefeller Centre. It was back in 1984 when I was 19 years old. I guess it was bad luck as the company I worked for, Manufacturers Hanover Trust, was acquired by another bank and no longer exists.

Believe it or not I do have a superstition with my Filofax. Between the eight years I divorced and subsequently met John, my partner, I wrote down in my filo EVERYTHING about dates with boyfriends...what movie, if they called, etc.. Once I started dating John I stopped this habit. Nothing went into the Filofax about him. I even used a post-it for his phone number!

  5. My second son was born on Friday the 13th at high noon. Over the years there have been some random comments from people about how he was born on an unlucky day. Whenever his birthday falls on a Friday we've always gone to great pains to stress what an extra lucky bonus it is.

No superstitions about my Filofax. Unless you count that I can guarantee the one time I forget it will be the one time I need it most.

  6. If I had been born a day later I would have been born on Friday 13th.... But I'm not superstitious really!

  7. Need some input from you wonderful Philofaxy readers. I work in an office environment and attend a fair number of meetings during the week. I stopped using my Finchley A% as it is just too big to drag around. I've recently purchased a Malden Personal. I love it but not certain about using it to capture meeting notes. For you Personal users out there, how to you handle capturing notes in meetings?

    1. I used bullet journaling to capture meeting notes...you might find that interesting; www.bulletjournal.com

  8. Since I fixed my Franklin hole punch it is obviously much quicker to punch the pages on my insert. I trimmed and punched the pages for January and will draw my format. However, I again started designing the computer version of it in Word. It is simple thus far because I remembered the details and process. I am in no hurry to finish it though. In previous comments I stated that it is inconvenient to design pages because of the time and effort. My view has changed and I cannot imagine not designing my pages.

  9. I'm a little late to the Friday postings but I'm quite confused about the multiple planner phenomenon...are people keeping multiple calendars or are they using them as focused notebooks rather than daily "I need to be here at this time" type planners.
