Lefax Price List 1988

Once again we go back in time to revisit a Lefax price list from 1988. I'm very grateful to Ben for sending me this price list as it helps complete yet another part of the big jigsaw of the history of past models and how the company changed shape over the years.

This next page adds more pieces to our jigsaw of the history of Filofax in terms of locations.

Looking firstly at the London addresses. An odd consequence of 9 Murray Street both in London and New York.  The London address looks very empty these days. The New York address is the Franklin Building. The Paris address eventually became the Paris Filofax Centre later in its life before closing.  The fourth address is a second shop in Covent Garden, occupied these days by a Cath Kidston Store.

And there are higher resolution versions of all the pages here.

  1. I like the sound of the dividers that are listed with one letter per leather tab!

  2. Anyone know anything about the ownership of Lefax at the time this price list appeared?
Seeing it has prompted me to look through the catalogue from 1992, where many of the inserts are illustrated. I notice that 1984 is the earliest date shown on any of them, suggesting that was the start of this particular incarnation of Lefax. I believe Filofax then acquired the brand in 1992.

    1. I'm guessing that they were independent at this point in time and when Filofax bought them in 1992 they took over the property they owned (such as the shop in Paris)

    2. Further research tells that Lefax became part of the publishing and communications group Quarto plc in 1988. Also, it seems their UK shop moved to 30-31 Lyme St., London NW1 0EE. And the 1992 catalogue gives the UK office as 4th Floor, 4 Brandon Road, London N7 9TP.

    3. Another snippet I've just found is that a corporation based in New York called "Lefax Publishing Company, Inc." was registered on 25th July 1984. I wonder if that was what Quarto acquired?

    4. What would be great to put together would be a sort of 'Timeline' of the company or may be a family tree of the company with key information at different dates if we can figure it out! May be something to discuss at the London meet up.

  3. I also found mild amusement in the announcement "at last" of a six hole punch, because Lefax Inc. offered those in the range in the early 1920s.
