Free For All Tuesday - No 313

Well the last day in January already. The month seemed to go very quickly for me.

So what questions or discussion points have you got for us today?

Fire away.

  1. Hi all! I have a question for those of you that use fountain pens in your planner. Do you carry the pen in the pen loop? Or elsewhere, like a pen case? Any leaking issues?
    Thank you

  2. I use two fountain pens and carry both in the pen loops of my personal Cuban. They're good quality pens (Waterman/Yard-o-Led) so I don't have leakage issues. I used to use a cheaper brand (Lamy) and that could get messy ... ;-)

    2. I have memories of the cheap fountain pens I used decades ago in school. They leaked everywhere!

  3. I keep then in a case. I favor fatter pens and some don't fit. I also worry about the smaller ones falling out and getting lost or scratched up when tossed in my bag.

  4. I should have said ... the Cuban is zipped, so the pens are protected and can't fall out or lose their tops when I'm on the move.

  5. I use both pen types in my compact planner but out of space scarcity only carry a Kyocera KM-15 Cera Professional Liner with black, red and pencil option. My fountain pens however (Pilot vanishing point, Pilot Prera, Pilot Urban, Lamy Safary) stay usually at home despite owning one slim fountain pen case, that fits two pens.

    1. I envy those carrying their fountain pens in their planner, but I am too much into compact carry around options plus I still use one kind of Filofax inserts (M2P) that doesn't take ink well.

If I had the latter on fountain pen friendly paper, I would be more likely to also carry the fountain pen case with me in order to having black and red plus a pencil with me on the go.

    2. I printed my 2017 inserts on heavier paper. That is what led to this question. In the past, I printed on plain old copy paper...fountain pen ink poured thru it making the reverse side unusable. I think I need one of those fountain pen cases.

    3. If you'd like to see my small zipped fountain pen case, then you can follow this link: https://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B003EHX2BU/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?__mk_de_DE=ÅMÅZÕÑ&qid=1485886916&sr=8-6&pi=SL75_QL70&keywords=füller+etui+leder
It's listed on the Amazon.de platform, from where I ordered it mid of 2015.

    5. I sometimes carry my fountain pen in my binder pen loop. However, most of the time I carry a few in my pen wrap that I had made. Works great and very flexible as I had it made to be able to use in several configurations. Either rolled up or folded in half or tri-fold. Wanda, the person that makes them usually makes them for 4 or 6 pens I think. I had mine made to hold 8. Although usually I have 3 or 4 in it.

Very reasonable price and Wanda is great to work with.

I had one made with a black denim like material on the outside and a very soft smooth blue micro-fiber on the inside. Ended up getting two more made. One with a golden color inside and another with black inside.

Have had them for several years and they are like new.

Would be glad to share a few pics, if you're interested. Just let me know where to email them.

      Mark
