Free For All Friday No. 487 by Tim Edwards

Some people are avid collectors of different binders, and others love decoration or the tactile feel of the different Filofax designs.

On the other hand, many users see their organiser as a planning tool to help them set goals and progress towards achieving them. This week has featured several time management posts.

Do you use your organiser(s) primarily for planning with monthly, weekly AND daily pages?

Do you set and review progress to achieving goals on a regular basis?

Ask yourself - is your Filofax collection really a hobby, or is it a way of life?

Naturally as this is Friday please feel free to discuss anything ring bound planner or organiser related.

  1. I am hoping someone can advise me on the comparison of the Gillio Compagna Standard vs the VDS Touch Me. I've read that the Gillio has a little more structure and is more like the Filofax Malden in handling. I had a VDS but found it too floppy for the way I use my planner. I also like the idea of the
Gillio being slightly narrower. If anyone can enlighten me on the differences I would be very appreciative. To date my review searches haven't answered my questions. Thank you

    1. p.s. I love the Malden and if it was a Gillio/VDS layout I'd be happy with leather/structure etc. The Touch Me was close to ideal for me, but alas, too floppy for my work on the run.

  2. Copy/Paste - from Article: Ask yourself - is your Filofax collection really a hobby, or is it a way of life?

For me it is neither. Having being totally immersed in electronics for the last 20 years of my working life, I now find myself wanting to get back to basics. Also, I am now not wanting to spend all my spare cash on cell phone plans (these cost the earth in Canada) That said, my Filofax is used as a 100% rock solid reminder of my plans (especially travel plans) dates, and whatever else.

I spent many years (in the 1990's) telling folk about the importance of being online....... now I am getting a little bored with it. I have less disposable cash these days, and the web is not what it was - it has deteriorated, somewhat, methinks.

  3. My Filos are essential to me for keeping organised, which is as much about keeping records as it is about planning. So yes I would say a way of life as well as a hobby.

  4. I designed my weekly and monthly formats and other templates on the computer. The monthly one is my digital calendar and I can input the information quickly on the computer. I print the weekly one and other templates. I place the sheets in my small notebook and the notebook in a pocket of my wallet. The sturdy material of the wallet prevents buckling as I view the pages of the notebook or remove items while I am standing.
I prefer the benefits of technology and paper.

  5. Since it is 30 years this spring, I guess it is a way of life. I’ve lost count of the number of ‘hobbies’ I’ve had over that period of time.

    1. To err is human... someone didn't realise what day of the week it was... and for a change it wasn't me!
In my desperation to get a post on the blog I picked this one, but because of the difficulties of posting from a mobile I found it near impossible to do any editing on the post.
So it went out as it was until I had a chance to get to it with my laptop.
      OK?

  7. Do you use your organiser(s) primarily for planning with monthly, weekly AND daily pages?
I have monthly layouts for future planning, but mainly use vertical week on 2 pages for daily and weekly planning.

Do you set and review progress to achieving goals on a regular basis?
Once a month I sit down and review what progress I've made towards my goals and what to set up for the next month.

Ask yourself - is your Filofax collection really a hobby, or is it a way of life?
At the moment, I don't use a Filofax, but my planners are a hobby that keep my life organized.
