  1. A bit of an off beam question really. Are there any folks that use just a pencil for their planners rather than colour coding etc? I started using just a pencil for my EDC, easy to rub out if plans change and unlike Frixion does not fade in heat. If so, what are the best pencils in your opinion to use? Old fashioned wood or a particular brand/type of propelling one?? Any pros or cons re just pencil? I have just invested in colour coded gel pens for my A5 and it seems an expense and a fuss about sometimes!!!! Any thoughts and reflections much appreciated. Many thanks. xxxx

  2. I'm interested to know this too. I'm considering going all-pencil in my planner because my plans change so much. I don't use Frixion pens because of the disappearing in the heat thing. I'm picky about my pencils and like the markings to be dark on the page. Most mechanical pencil leads are hard so they don't break but it causes the markings to be light. Any recommendations welcome!

  3. I'm in year two of all pencil, only pencil. I love the practicality and clean look. I prefer lighter pencils so I use 3h or 4h wood pencils. Wood gives you the flexibility with so many grade options. I sometimes miss colour, so I use the agendio planner and customise it for a different colour for each month. So the planner is colourful, not my writing.

  4. Likewise I use pencil and pen, pencil when I'm planning and things might still change but ink when I've finalised things.
I did this post a few years ago: https://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2011/02/bic-criterium-20-mm-mechanical-pencil.html

I prefer mechanical pencils, you can change the grade of the lead to your own choice and they fit the pen loop easily. My main reason for two pen loops.... pen and pencil!

Pen wise I'm still using my Uniball Vision Elite I buy these in 0.5 mm size in black but other sizes/colours are available.

  5. I use a mini Faber-Castell propelling pencil with my Mini Finchley. It is much more reliable than mini ball point pens (which, in my experience, stop working very soon after purchase). I do, though, use a fountain pen in my A5 diary.

  6. Thanks everyone. Question answered.... I do appreciate Philofaxy and the Philofaxees,(I'm far too young, but it sounds like the WW2 Ovaltinees and the song doesn't it?.... "We are the Philofaxees, Happy girls and boys!!!") Slightly mad of me that thought, but I had to smile at myself here!!!
