  1. I have just come back to Filofax after some years (I had my first filofax in 1988 after using a TMI system for a year). I found philofaxy mentioned in this months PC PRO UK magazine.
My question: I use a Lamy Safari and I am finding white and yellow filofax personal paper (I have a lot of old stuff) not very easy to write on - sometimes a bit slippy so the ink goes from black to grey and back a lot.

Would the cotton cream paper be better?
    What would you advise?
    thanks for your help.

    1. Hi and welcome
Can I ask what month of PC Pro Magazine, what month it says on the cover?
      Thanks.

    2. Hi sorry for the delay, magazine was at home and I was at work.
It is issue 285 July 2018. headline on cover is "Avoid shock bills" and the reference to philofaxy is on page 44 where it is described as a blog that passionately expounds the benefits of paper planners.

    3. Thank you, I will get my dear wife who is in UK this week to seek out a copy.

The author of the article spent the afternoon with us at the last Philofaxy meet up in London back in March.

  2. Welcome back!

If you mean a Safari fountain pen, then Filofax is not the best paper to write on. I mostly write with fountain pens in my binder.

You can either get good paper from various independent vendors on places like Etsy or other places online.

I found that Time/System uses good paper for their pages. They have pages in A5 and Personal.

Other option is to get a pad of Rhodia paper and print your own pages. Free templates available on this site.

Also, different inks will react differently on various papers. Some inks are wetter or dryer than others.

So, you probably need to experiment with different papers and possibly inks to find the combination that works best for you.

    Hope this helps.

    1. Thanks Mark. I forgot that Lamy Safari could mean a fountain pen, ballpoint or pencil.... yes I use the fountain pens - 4 of them in different locations. I have seen other articles here that spoke highly of Rhodia paper.
I will probably try that route but may also buy a Lamy Safari ballpoint pen.

    2. I am currently using the 2018 Week On Two Pages Cotton Cream Filofax inserts which go very well with any of my fountain pens - no bleeding, no slipping. Older Filofax inserts - may they be cotton cream or not - are very bad when writing with a fountain pen.

    3. Quick follow up on my original question/s.
I have purchased some cotton cream ruled paper, a Lamy ballpoint pen and a small rhodia notebook.
      1. The Lamy ballpoint pen is great, writes nicely on all paper.
      2. My Lamy fountain/ink pens write really well on the cotton cream paper.
      3. My Lamy fountain/ink pens write really well on the Rhodia paper.

Mark. So a win all around and thanks Mark for the excellent suggestions.

Dirk, My findings agree totally with yours.

    4. You're most welcome. Glad you like it.

After reading David's post below, I realized I should have also included Tomoe River paper that he mentioned.

I have a high quality leather bound journal from Design-Y in Japan that I bought about 4 years ago that has lined Tomoe paper in it. It's very thin paper, but works well for fountain pens. http://design-y.near-mint.com/

  3. What Rhodia pad is the same size as filofax personal?

    1. Sadly there isn't one. All the sizes are listed in this post: https://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2017/09/paper-sizing-and-scaling.html

  4. Another FP friendly option is Tomoe River paper in FF personal (and pocket) size, available from Jet Pens e.g:

    https://www.jetpens.com/Raymay-Davinci-Refill-Pages-Bible-Personal-Size-Plain-100-Sheets/pd/11684

Drying times are slightly longer than for some papers but there should be no "beading" or bleedthrough. It is very thin so there may be some show through to the other side of the sheet.

    Dave.
