  1. I've kind of answered my question on my own... but not really.

I've been using filofaxes for a couple of years, and paper planners for much longer, but I still find myself over-analysing my setup. I am happy with A5 for work and for my studies but for my small handbag filo? I just can't seem to settle.

This year I started out using a Hobonichi Weeks, which I loved - until I discovered that I really miss rearranging the pages. So Filofax it is.

On the go, I only need an appointment diary, a notebook, and some reference information, and I've narrowed the choice down to pocket size (with week on 4 pages inserts), or personal compact (with week + notes, like the hobonichi). Either way, I'm going to print my inserts on tomoe river paper so I can make good use of the small binder.

Either of these options would be good, and I can change my mind any time I like. Nevertheless I find myself agonizing over the decision.

I asked my husband and my son, who both humoured my craziness and suggested I should go with the pocket size. I'm going to follow their advice and see how I get on.

However I still have a question to ask. What is wrong with me? How can this simple decision cause me so much anguish? For others that have found themselves in such a pickle: did you ever figure out what was going on?

  2. Wendy, can relate to your anguish....think most of us have gone through at different times.

Think it's for a combination of reasons:

    1. Wanting to find the perfect organizing tool, as if that will fix all our organizational problems. The 'grass is greener' elsewhere syndrone.

    2. Way of distracting ourselves from other issues that are impacting our ability to get things done, etc.

Think the way out of this is to make a decision to stick with a system that is working for you and resist the temptation to make a change to something different, unless your current system is truly not working for you. If it's not, get clear about why it's not working before changing.

If you need a smaller size for your on the go portable solution, then go with pocket, realizing that it won't give you the all features of A5, but gives you some of it in a lighter weight, smaller format.

    Good luck....

    HTH,

    Mark

    1. Thank you Mark. It's good to know that someone understands. I'm setting up my pocket filo now, with the intention of spending less time obsessing and more time getting on with my tasks.
