What are the Filofax clipbook style options out there for plain, sober, cheap and tough repositional page notebooks? Filofax organisers are a bit too formal but clipbooks look good option.
ReplyDeleteIt's for work so it'll get a battering hence cheap and replaceable covers. It'll be used with regular culling of used pages and regular rearrangement of pages. How much bigger than bound A5 notebooks are clipbooks? Desk real estate is limited. I'll probably fold it right back, will they be ok to be write on both sides when folded right back or only on right hand pages?
What's the best way to make printables up for dated diary pages. I like space to write in a diary plus a month to a view. It'll be like a bullet journal come notebook/project book.
Also, what's the alternatives?
Hi, I love my A5 clipbooks. The spine is floppy, so it's not much more bulky than a notebook. The thickness depends on how many pages you have, because covers sit flat against the pages. The rings are the only bit that sticks out.
DeleteYou can definitely fold it back on itself and write on both sides. I haven't had any problems writing on the left hand page.
I print pages with the booklet setting (in Word or PDF)), which makes 2x A5 sheets per A4 page. However, the book also comes with a fold out monthly view page that you can use to get started.
If you have a filofax retailer near you go take a look - WH Smith in the UK has them - but if not, I'd recommend you order one and give it a try.

DeleteDo index pages stick out a bit? I saw a picture where the paper looks close to the edge of the cover when closed. Made me think index tabs would take it to the edge or beyond. Might get scruffy if that's the case.
Yes, index pages do stick out because the cover isn’t much wider than the pages. I use sticky page flags instead because they seem to cope better with the wear and tear. It gives a less structured feel but I don’t mind.
DeleteI use a white A5 clipbook for master to do list, notes, reference, other. I DIY the pages from printables and leftovers in approx half-letter US size and a few dividers with top tabs. I love it. It is my main companion to my dated planner. I like it because it is thin, small, opens flat. I typically don't like A5, too bulky for me and always have used filofax personal size. This is the exception.
DeleteQuestion from someone (me) who had no idea until now, that there was a huge community of philo/filo/deskfax devotees out there.... I have a burgundy calf leather Deskfax (DX1 CLF 7/8) which I KNOW I bought before 1990. Apparently the model I have was made in 1989 - but the only original (they came with it) inserts in it are dated 1987. Puzzled...

DeleteIt was not uncommon for the 'Fill' on organisers of the one you own to contain inserts from different years. They only put the date of that particular design on the inserts, they didn't all get updated every year. Plus they used up what ever was in stock at the time.

Yes - it’s best to look upon the dates printed on leaves as being the publication date of that particular version.
