Free For All Friday No. 660 by Steve

2021 is recognised as the 100th year of the Filofax Personal Organiser.

We could get in to a long discussion about is it really 100 years... Six ring organisers existed before 1921, or Norman and Hill didn't register the Filofax trademark until after 1921, but let us not fall in to that trap!

We have speculating what Filofax might bring out this year to celebrate the 100 years for a few years.

There have been previous anniversary models at the 75th anniversary and the 85th anniversary, I will do a full post on those sometime soon.

What would you like them to bring out to celebrate the 100 years of the Filofax Personal Organiser?

What do you think Filofax will actually bring out this year to celebrate 100 years of the Filofax Personal Organiser?

Two slightly different questions! The dream vs reality!

As always it is Friday so please feel free to discuss anything organiser related. Have a good weekend.

  1. A reissue of a popular older model would be nice - perhaps a slimline Sandhurst or a brown hide leather binder.
The comments on the post here from 22nd June included a link to a video that may be showing the full extent of what’s actually planned. There was nothing exciting from my perspective unfortunately.

  2. Anything coming out this year will have already been manufactured, and either on a ship from China, or waiting in a warehouse!

    1. Rather disappointing so far as well.

It is as if there is no one in the company these days that realises the history of the company.

I'm going through the time line of the company at present and the anniversaries seem to get more low key as each one passes. The most celebrated being the 75th anniversary in 1996. The 85th had a special edition Eton, but nothing since then!

May be I can persuade Van der Spek to celebrate their 100th anniversary in 2026 in a big way!

  3. Day late and off topic, but does anyone know the cheapest real leather filofax or filofax compatible organiser? UK based. It's for someone who likes the idea but doesn't want to spend a lot just in case and doesn't like fake leather. Personal sized.

I have a personal Metropol she's flocked through. Something like that but leather. Not too pastel or flowery.

  4. Would love to classic reissues (Belmont, Bridle, Cross, Sandhurst). And I’ve preordered the Charcoal personal.

  5. I'd like to see more environmentally friendly items. I see in their blog of 1 July 2021 they present their sustainability credentials so I think I'm on to something.
It's a good move. I'd like to see more products that don't rely on animals. Dare I write 'vegan-friendly' products?!

    1. Leather used in organisers is a by product of the food industry. Animals aren't breed purely for their hides. The hide would be otherwise a waste product.

    2. You should be happy then.Their line is full of plastic, not sure how systainable that is but it's certainly synthetic.

  6. Vegan friendly means plastic leather look materials. Petroleum derived materials and possibly not from recycled materials. There's a trade off with everything.

  7. For the 100th anniversary it would be great to have the Winchester or Portland back. Both great planners gone way too soon.

  8. I would like to see some accessories - for us folks that don't want to buy new planners - oliclips, dividers, etc. limited edition

    1. They have all of these available now on Filofax.com

  9. Something interesting in the form of refills. The likes of Etsy and even Amazon sellers do interesting refills. Perhaps Filofax could come up with something too??

BTW I've never got the point of oliclips or charms or fancy paper clips. If you need to section something out of identify with a clip then use a divider perhaps better? Clips can be lost I reckon.

I do get the idea of a cheaper, special something though. A fancy colour Malden or other premium and expensive special edition might suit some but if your budget is £35 for an organiser you're stuck with a Metropol or similar not an overpriced Malden or formerly obsolete organiser model. Something cheaper as a treat is thinking for all types of customer and a nice thanks for their support.
