  1. Hello. The rivets on my Deskfax Richmond have come loose so the whole mechanism has come off. How or where do I go to repair it - have it put back on? Is it something that I could do myself? Thank you.

    1. If the rivets aren't damaged you should be able to put the rings back on again and then fettle the rivets back again to hold the rings back in place. I would be tempted to add a little bit of epoxy glue around the rivets for good measure.
Alternatively you could get the rivets drilled out and use some domed fasteners through the spine to securely hold the rings again.
You can send me some photos if you want me to take a closer look philofaxy at gmail dot com

    2. Thank you so much Steve. The binder pops back into place but doesn't stay there, as if something holding it in place has come off. I don't know how it's happened and on both ends at different times too.I'll send you an email now. Thank you

  3. I was wondering what's the best way to store filofaxes currently not in use? Discovered my finsbury personal has rust on both edges of the binding mechanism. Currently store all of them in a plastic Really Useful box with no covers. Also, does anyone use dustbags to carry them around in or just throw them into their day bags. Hoping to start taking mine outside alot more.Thanks.

    1. If you have any packs of silica gel, pop one of those inside before you put them in a box or similar. I would suggest setting a reminder to inspect the inside every 6 months or so and replace the silica gel pouch with a new one, put the old one in your airing cupboard or similar to dry out again.

To get rid of rust use silver foil and lemon juice to remove the rust and then polish it with a dry cloth and a little amount of metal or car polish.

    2. I'm keeping an eye out for the right kind of padded or quilted fabric to make a loose pocket to slip my Filofax into, I don't carry my main book out the house but have a specially set-up planner with maps, quotes, bits to read, a Getting Things Done trigger list etc. I use a basic polythene freezer bag if there's any chance of spills getting on my planner.

  4. Thanks. Those small sachets of silica gel? Will order some now and keep them in the box. Will try the silver foil and lemon juice for the rust hopefully my fat fingers can reach the area!

    1. Any packets I receive that have those in I pop in a small tray in our airing cupboard!

And if you screw up the silver foil you should be able to get it in the gap under the rings at the edge.
