  1. I'm really pleased to see the new 'Eco Essential' collection (see www.filofax.com/collections/eco-essential). It's basically the Domino but updated with sustainable and cruelty-free materials.

    What do others think?

    1. I do wonder how durable it will be over time, how will the corners wear and cope with day to day use and being put in and out of a backpack or similar.
Good to see them using less plastic though I have to give them credit for that.

    2. It's a start, but looks to me like 'greenwashing' - overemphasising a product's eco-credentials. It's still manufactured in a big factory on the other side of the world and then shipped thousands of kilometres. Who certifies the cellulose used and the stain resistant (plastic?) coating? All paper should be from FSC Certified sources in any case. When they have to use phrases like 'giving back to Mother Earth', 'invite a slice of nature into your day' and 'help loved ones live a greener life' to promote it, makes me very doubtful.

    4. Good point, Steve.
I think it's convinced me to give it a go -- I'll report back.
I've had the Domino before so it'll be nice to return to the design.
I'll miss my Clipbook though which I've been using for years and really like.

  3. Hi Steve, I wonder if the zipped pocket on sale in Filofax France could be a jotting pad ? I'm looking for a personal and also A5 jotting pads. Thanks you for your very wise input. Marion.

  5. Hello. I was given a tatty A5 Filofax that was in storage for a while. I've never seen anything like it before - it says Filofax in big lettering on the inside of the front cover but on the binding mechanism says 'ten-shun' pats pens. It feels like it's made of rubber similar to the spine of the 'active' model. Does anyone know anything about it? I wanted to send it to filoeiki as I live looking through the various Filofaxes - and thought it could be an addition to the catalogue but don't know how to send pictures, etc

  6. Eeeks. I don't know if my previous message has gone through - if so, please delete.

I've recently been given a tatty A5 black filofax - it seems like it's made of rubber similar to the spine on the 'active' model. The filofax logo is embossed on the inside front pocket and the binding mechanism says 'pats pend'. I was hoping to send some pictures to filowiki so that they can be added to the catalogue, possibly with a name, but don't know how to.

  7. I noticed that the Filofax website does not show any Chester binders - just Chester accessories. I am hoping that this is just a stock issue, and that they have not been discontinued. Does anyone have information on this?

    1. Much of the Chester series is still available on the German Filofax website.
Maybe a tip: I bought the Chester Personal in black at the end of 2022 for only €59.90 (plus €4.90 shipping) on Amazon Germany from the retailer "PS-Handelshaus".
This retailer still sells the Chester Personal in brown (€69.90 plus shipping) on Amazon and in brown (same price as Amazon) and black (€79.90 plus shipping) on ebay Germany (with worldwide shipping).
Although he sells the Chester as new, mine was missing the ring saver and the package had been opened before.
However, the Chester was new, never used, with both boxes, all inserts and the gift ribbon, but still had two small imperfections (a not so nicely finished inside corner and thread/glue under the clasp attachment.
But for this price I can live with it very well.
And the retailer also included a calendar, which is normally not supplied with the Chester - 1Wo2P, horizontally in cotton cream.

    2. Alex, thanks for your comment. I have a Chester Personal, but as I'm still considering a Compact/Slim, I will explore those links.
Tim, thanks also for your comment. As one of the few really high quality models, it seems a shame that the Chester should disappear, but I suppose it's consistent with the general trend Filofax are choosing to follow.

  8. We know that the different Filofax binders are commissioned in batches, rather than in continuous production. There have been at least two batches of Chester models but, it seems there won’t be any more.

  9. Your comment got me curious about the Chester, so I went and looked. Now I'm curious about the travel wallet. What is that "heritage calendar" thing? How does that work? (I also think it's very weird that the Filofax website doesn't have any photos of the inside.)

  10. Unfortunately, I don't know how the calendar works either. But photos, also from the inside, are (still) available on the German Filofax website.

    1. Try searching ebay, including auctions which have ended, that can be the best place for detailed photos uploaded by private sellers. They're also more "real" than the glossy photos uploaded to company sites (I use this tip a lot for handbags and wallets).

  11. The calendar looks like one that’s inside an old writing case I have. The leather strip with days of the week on it slides up and down to align with grid of dates, so that you can position it to suit each month.

    1. Oh, okay. That answers my question! I'm glad I scrolled back a page to check on this "old" post. ;)
