Travel Organiser?

When you travel or you are frequently away from home, do you change what type of organiser you use? 

I tend towards using an A5 Zip as they can be put in and out of a back without worrying about loose papers slipping out undetected. 

I have two A5 Zip organisers, a Filofax Lockwood (left) and a Filofax Holborn (right) 

The Lockwood is quite compact with 25mm rings, the Holborn has 30 mm rings but the leather is very soft and supple. Both will fit in my backpack without any issues at all. 

Do you change size or type of organiser when you travel?

Free for All Friday No. 859 by Nan

 Here's a back-to-basics question for a Friday:  Why paper? 

A mobile phone or computer can store calendars, notes, documents, contacts, and lists just fine, so why use a paper organizer as well?

For me, it's about how the information is presented. With an electronic screen you can scroll, zoom, search, and follow links, but your vision is always limited to one screenful at a time. 

With paper, I can scan and browse as I turn the pages. I can travel through time and space without knowing where I want to end up. Instead of scrolling up or down, I can go in any direction my mind takes me. I can see as much or as little as I want, at my own pace.

Decoration... for Men (or for anyone really) 😉

I've seen various conversations about should we / shouldn't we decorate our binders (especially men), and generally until recently I myself have mainly chucked in a few photos or used graphically interesting tab dividers as minimal decoration. Until I watched a YouTuber that is, talking about notebooks, and how they used 'found ephemera' as decoration (apologies, as I don't remember the lady's name). 

Once I understood that ANYTHING can be used to decorate a Filofax, I realised that any found items that could be stuck onto page turners at the front and back of my binders (in my case), and can accumulate into images in their own right. In fact, I love the way that they ARE random and the challenge then is to compose the most interesting graphic from this randomness, forming meaningful (to me!) images that track my movements / interests / aesthetic sensibilities. 

Here are page turners from both my work binders (Portland 5/4) and home binders (Grosvenor 7/8). In my work binder, I collect mainly stickers I find on my work travels and the same for my personal home binder.

Gillio A5 Compagna

For the last couple of weeks I've been revisiting my Gillio Compagna A5 in Navy Blue. I bought this a few years ago when they released the navy blue, definitely my sort of colour!

It originally came with 25 mm rings, but I've retro-fitted it with 30mm rings and they work just fine with no issues of overhang of the tabs and pen etc. 

Because the Compagna only has one pen loop I'm using a pen loop that fits on the clasp which came from Moterm, not the same colour I know but it works! Gillio now sell similar accessories, I will have to see if they do them in navy blue. 

This arrangement does work though and allows me to use my usual pen and pencil combination in my organiser. 

The internal layout suits my basic needs just fine. 

The back cover has a zip pocket and slip pockets too. It's a shame that the interior leather doesn't extend under the pockets. This is the back, but the front is just the same. 

Despite only having one fitted pen loop, I enjoy using the A5 Compagna, it's got quite a heft to it and the quality of the leather is very good and it does lay flat even with the full width back pocket.
