Free For All Friday - No. 885

Looking back at my old diary inserts from 1987/1988 recently. They might be old, but they are as readable as the day I wrote them.

We will skip over the fact that I was using my Filofax diary as a journal rather than as a planner.

However, could any computer file that you created in the 1980's still be readable nearly 40 years later?

I have some old WordPerfect files from the 1990's that I have to use Libre Office to be able to open them these days, then save them in a more modern file format.

For the record, this post was jotted down on paper, in a notebook using a pen, not on a failing electronic device.

Of course it is Friday so please feel free to discuss anything Filofax related.

  1. On the other hand, we are celebrating 20 years of Philofaxy, sharing experiences with ring binders, with a searchable archive, accessible around the world.

On yet another hand, though, many of the links from the 'web finds' pages have long since vanished, and image sharing sites have closed, or become unavailable (I'm looking at you, Imgur)...

In other news, a burgundy Pocket Kensington plopped on my doormat this morning. I think I understand why so many people love them; lovely and soft. This one has a manufacturing code of MHJ, which, by my reckoning of the system, J would mean 1998. Though it first appeared in the 1999 catalogue. I have previously considered the need to manufacture in the year before catalogue date...

    1. A tan Mini Kensington is winging its way to my door - I didn't even know they existed in that colour - I would love to be able to help update filowiki so we could have an evolving encyclopaedia of filofax!

  2. Unfortunately my notes are also as (un)readable as the day I wrote them!
