Free For All Friday No 898 by Laurie

I like seeing photos and videos of different specialty pages people use in their binders that they have either created themselves or purchased. There are so many possibilities for different types of pages. Some I have noticed:

-Real estate agent's pages to track sales, house prep, etc.

-Crafters' project trackers

-Social media posts/ videos planning

Do you use any special types of pages in your Filofax for your work or life?

And as always on Fridays, feel free to ask and/ or discuss anything ring binder organiser related!

  1. I calculate local tide times, sunrise sunset, and moon cycles. I also print a custom gardening calendar.

  2. On a completely different topic I have been further testing Filofax safe fountain pen inks. These are inks with no feathering or bleed through on the worst quality Filofax paper I have.
The inks that consistently work well for me:
    Diamine Grey
    Noodler's Black
    Rohrer and Klingner Salix
    Rohrer and Klingner Scabiosa
    Herbin Perle Noire
Platinum Preppys with the black cartridges

All inks perform best with an XF or finer nib.

Two inks that are consistently recommended that have not worked for me are Waterman Serenity Blue and Noodler's X-Feather. Both bleed through badly.

To clarify I have tested on the worst offending Filofax papers I can find, plain white or white lined. Colour paper inserts seem to be better for fountain pens and work for a greater range of inks.

As ever, other people will have different experiences, depending on the batch of inserts and possible the ink flow in their own pens. I am just sharing this list in case anyone is frustrated and wants to try different inks.

Note, the Rohrer and Klingner inks are iron gall inks. You may or may not want to use these. Once upon a time I would not have in case they caused damage, but the general consensus on forums is that they are safe and they are sold as fountain pen inks. I have found them to be excellent - quick drying and water resistant.

    1. On the one hand, I'm a huge fan of fountain pens and would love to use my Parker 51 with my Filofax. On the other hand, it just doesn't feel quite right. A Filofax is such a quintessential 80s device—perfect for jotting down notes on the go. For me, it belongs to a different era than fountain pens. But I know that feeling of being torn. So, congratulations to everyone who can combine these two fantastic tools.

    2. Filofax was contemporary to the Parker 51: https://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2023/10/unusual-filofax-organiser-designs.html?m=1
