  1. One of the things I've always liked about Filofax was the constancy of the Diary design. In a world of flux, it was comforting somehow to see the same font and layout for next yea's Filofax. Now we have been subjected to the most incomprehensible change: VERTICAL months; both on the yearly calendar for 2016, as well as the individual months on the week-to-view (on each page for the day per page version). This not only breaks from Filofax tradition, it goes against the norms of Western calendar design. We read horizontally, not vertically. This is highly annoying, and it reduces efficiency. Even some Japanese friends that are familiar with tategaki, the traditional vertical writing style for kanji, can't figure out what's up with this new format. One can only surmise that the designer (though this would have had to be approved by a committee*) had been reading that renowned Chinese philosopher, Confuseus.

    2. Because I have not bought inserts in a long time I do not know of the changes on current pages. However, I like the way that the week pages are printed by Filofax and other longtime companies. If the first of the month is not on a Monday then the last few days of the previous month and the beginning days of the next month are on the first week. On pages sold by individuals one person prints those weeks twice, once on the previous month and again on the next month. Another person prints the first of the month on the last week of the previous month. Then when one turns to the next month the month begins on the third on a Monday because days 1-2 are not there. It is puzzling. I would not want to turn to a month and not see the first day of the month on the first week. That same person does not have a designated space for the holes on the page so that the holes are not on the writing space. One does not know what one will receive in terms of design and printing when one buys from a person who does not have more informed people examining the pages or making those decisions. Also the large companies have clear and stated return policies as long as one returns the pages in new condition.
