A Date For Your Diary - Sunday 3rd March 2019

We are going to run another conference round-table voice/video chat using Skype.

When? - Sunday 3 March at the following times:
  • London 10:00 am,
  • Paris 11:00 am,
  • Brisbane 8:00 pm time.
Additionally we will be on line later in the day at the following times:
  • Los Angeles 8:00 am,
  • Denver 9:00 am
  • Dallas 10:00 am,
  • New York 11:00am,
  • London 4:00 pm
  • Paris 5:00 pm etc.
Do not worry if you aren't available at the start of one of our sessions each one lasts 2-3 hours so pop up when you are available and say hello.

Where? - an on-line chat using Skype. with voice and video (if you wish). Please make sure you have the latest version of Skype.

What do I need? - just a micro-phone and some head phones(in ear phones work fine) and a free Skype account. Using headphones or earphone reduces 'echo' on the call. Video is optional, but a few of us will be on video as well.

Who - All of you... connect up with Philofaxy and we will attempt to get as many of us linked in to the audio conference as possible. Come and listen if you don't want to chat.  What do we talk about? Filofax stuff... but anything else as well. It's like long lost friends meeting up for coffee and a catch up.. but don't worry if you have never joined in before... you are an old friend too!

If you have any questions you want to ask then please let us know in the group or before we start.

How -
  1. Connect to Philofaxy by firstly searching for Philofaxy in Skype, I will then add you as a contact.
  2. Then  'Send Contact Request',  I will then add you in to the chat room.
  3. Then if you request it, I can add you to the audio conference as well. But if you just want to chat via keyboard that's fine. That way it's slightly less hectic for me!
Come and join in the fun, even if you only pop in to say hello... but don't be afraid to join in the discussion.

If you need any assistance setting up Skype, please pop a comment in this post and I will try and help you get one line. Skype is free for computer to computer calls....

Here is my post on how to improve your Skype audio with headphones or a headset.

Hope to be chatting with you on Sunday 3 March 2019.

Free For All Friday No 536 by Laurie

Recently I had a 3 hour wait in a comfortable location. I came prepared with a snack, my water bottle, a book, and my Filofax. I expected I would be bored for at least part of the time. But it was actually really nice to have that time to read, and to go through my Filofax. I had plenty of time to look through my pages to see what was coming up in the next few weeks, come up with some ideas for work, review my goals, and put goal tasks into my schedule.

It made me realize how infrequently I just sit down with my Filofax and peruse the pages. I don't do a big weekly planning session; I plan continually during the week as things come up or change. Every Sunday I copy the week's plans into the family calendar. But otherwise my planning is on an as-needed basis.

I think I'm going to start having regular sit-down sessions with my Filofax just to look through the pages and remind myself of what's important.

Do you do big planning sessions on a regular basis? What is your planning routine?

And as always on Fridays, feel free to ask and/ or discuss anything ring-binder organizer related!

Planning Travels In Your Organiser

This coming weekend starts off one of many journeys I will be doing this year. It's quite a busy year in several ways.

So I always like to use my organiser to prepare for these trips and to make sure I have all the information I need on the journey and to make sure I have packed everything, even forgetting the smallest of things can create a bit of a headache like leaving a charging cable behind or forgetting to pack a tie or similar.

Over the years I have created/developed several inserts to ease the pain of travel planning. I have evolved these over time to meet my needs.

I keep my plans in my Filofax travel wallet that I use for long distance trips.

So what inserts are there that can help you in planning your trip?

I like to have the details of the different parts of the journey on paper, using this insert. Yes, it is quite detailed, but I learnt from our trip to the USA in 2015 that I needed all the various bits of information I have included because the different airlines had different restrictions!

However, you can of course customise the insert as you wish.

Personal sized insert:  Travel Planning .docx .pdf

I use this packing list form for short weekend trips when it tends to be just me. On the reverse side I have included a 'Things to do before leaving' area. I've customised my own version of this with all my usual things I take on trips, you can do the same of course.

Personal size: Weekend Travel Packing List.docx
A6 size: Weekend Packing Lists  .docx .pdf

Here is my own personalised version, I leave the blank spaces for specific things to be added for a particular trip.

If you are going away on a much longer trip with your family. You might find this insert of interest, it is similar to one that used to be available from Filofax back in the 1980's in Personal size. I found it far too detailed, but it is quite easy to remove the things you will never take and get the list down to a single sided page.

A4/A5 size: Travellers Check List (A4) - .doc .pdf

If you are doing any long distance travelling I find having a Time Zone map handy, I nearly got caught out a few years ago by my electronic calendar adjusting the time of a flight!

Time Zone Map
Printing the above:
  • A5 Print on A4 size paper then fold in half and fold back to the edge (Z fold)
  • A6 Print on A5 size paper then fold in half and fold back to the edge (Z fold)
  • Personal Print on A4 size paper cut to 171 mm high then fold in half and fold back to the edge (Z fold)
  • Pocket Print on A4 size paper cut to 120 mm high then fold in half and fold back to the edge (Z fold)

Free for All Friday No. 535 by Steve

Earlier this week I was scanning in the catalogue that featured in yesterday's post. This was one from about 10 years ago.

What surprised me was how some models that we are still very familiar with, yet there was a few in that catalogue that I'd not seen before or since. Sort of here today gone tomorrow!

I guess that is the pace of the modern retail environment we live in. If it doesn't sell in large numbers, drop it and move on to something new. A total contrast to how things used to be I guess.

Of course it is Friday, so feel free to discuss anything organiser related.

Have a great weekend.
