Free For All Friday - No. 590 by Anita

I've been doing some more decluttering recently and starting going through my box that houses my stationery and Filofax stuff. Most of my friends and family also enjoy stationery, so I went through and separated out some bits and pieces that were meant as gifts and that freed up quite a bit of space. My Franklin Covey compact sized storage binder holds most of my spare paper and lives on the end of my bookshelf for easy access.

Whilst I haven't completed this job, I have realised already that I have more than enough! Therefore, I have decided that 2020 is going to be a year of using up what I already have, and donating any items that I don't like, or just doesn't work for me. I'm looking forward to reducing what I have and only really keeping stuff that I know that I will use.

Do you also have a regular declutter of your Filofax and stationery supplies?

And as always, please feel free to discuss anything Filofax or ringbound organiser related.
Have a great weekend.

Dot Grid Pages

We had a recent request for some 'Dot Grid' templates for your Filofax. I found a few examples on line, but I decided to create my own anyway.

I've created three different sizes of grid: 5mm, 7mm and 9mm, you can download them here:
  • A4/A5 - 5mm Dot Grid Pages - .docx .pdf
  • A4/A5 - 7mm Dot Grid Pages - .docx .pdf
  • A4/A5 - 9mm Dot Grid Pages - .docx .pdf
Each file contains four pages so if you booklet print you will get two A5 pages with each side filled with the dot-grid pattern.

These were fairly easy to create. Each page is just a table, with invisible borders with a central full stop in each cell. I sized the table cells accordingly and allowed for the scaling down when printing from A4 to A5

If you show the grid lines in the table, the page looks like this:

Therefore creating other page sizes or dot intervals is fairly easy to do.

I hope you find these templates useful in your organiser/planner.

24 February 2020

A date for your diary - Sunday 1st March 2020

After a break of a few months, we are going to run another conference round-table voice/video chat using Skype.

When? - Sunday 1 March at the following times:
  • Los Angeles 8:00 am,
  • Denver 9:00 am
  • Dallas 10:00 am,
  • New York 11:00am,
  • London 4:00 pm
  • Paris 5:00 pm etc.
Do not worry if you aren't available at the start of our session it will last 2-3 hours, so pop up when you are available and say hello.

Where? - an on-line chat using Skype. with voice and video (if you wish). Please make sure you have the latest version of Skype.

What do I need? - just a micro-phone and some head phones(in ear phones work fine) and a free Skype account. Using headphones or earphone reduces 'echo' on the call. Video is optional, but a few of us will be on video as well.

Who - All of you... connect up with Philofaxy and we will attempt to get as many of us linked in to the audio conference as possible. Come and listen if you don't want to chat.  What do we talk about? Filofax stuff... but anything else as well. It's like long lost friends meeting up for coffee and a catch up.. but don't worry if you have never joined in before... you are an old friend too!

If you have any questions you want to ask then please let us know in the group or before we start.

How -
  1. Connect to Philofaxy by firstly searching for Philofaxy in Skype, I will then add you as a contact.
  2. Then  'Send Contact Request',  I will then add you in to the chat room.
  3. Then if you request it, I can add you to the audio conference as well. But if you just want to chat via keyboard that's fine. That way it's slightly less hectic for me!
Come and join in the fun, even if you only pop in to say hello... but don't be afraid to join in the discussion.

If you need any assistance setting up Skype, please pop a comment in this post and I will try and help you get one line. Skype is free for computer to computer calls....

Here is my post on how to improve your Skype audio with headphones or a headset.

Hope to be chatting with you on Sunday 1 March 2020.

Throw Back Thursday: The obituary for Filofax has been recalled

Written in February 2010! with some gentle editing for 2020

Newspaper editors have this week been apologising for the premature announcements of the death of the Filofax. It seems that the Filofax has been going about its business quietly and without making a fuss for years. They blamed the lack of TV coverage and the lack of mentions in the weekly celeb magazines for them thinking it had died without trace.

Keen followers and users of Filofax have been rejoicing and broadcasting their love for Filofax on Twitter and other social networks this week following the announcements that sales in the leather bound organisers had never been better.

Filofax HQ have even called in expert users to review their up and coming TV ad campaign which reportedly features a user turning the pages of their Filofax and showing the camera the variety of pages available. 'You want a list to remember all the things to take on holiday…. There is an insert for that'  Now where have I heard something like that before....

Male Filofax users were slightly concerned that this weeks announcements included the startling statistics that they were in the minority when it came to the demographics of the average Filofax user. They have called for the focus groups to get together to design some more masculine organisers. Ideas have included a fake camouflage cover. Inserts featuring maps showing the locations of CAMRA recommended pubs and bars in central London. They have also called upon Filofax to develop a similar 'beauty Filofax gift box' that will appeal to men. The atomiser pen could of course be used for aftershave, the mirror for shaving and checking for other unwanted facial hair!

All Filofax users have appealed to Filofax UK to not get carried away with this newly found popularity, they don't want the brand to be cheapened, or for senseless gadgets to be included such as electronic alarm reminders, the clip in calculator is going far enough thank you.

Filofax has called for Instagram influencers to tell their story of their hidden years in hiding at the bottom of desk drawers and called for Filofax UK to ensure there was a plentiful supply of diaries and inserts available for all his old friends that have been emerging this week.

The family and friends of Filofax are pleased and happy that the Filofax is in fact alive and well.

Note: Written with tongue firmly in cheek!

Dodo Towers and our current website will close at the end of March or very soon after that.

Our future still has a big question mark hanging over it. Since Christmas, we've been in discussion with buyers, one of whom we really thought would decide to go ahead. To us, it looked like the perfect marriage. But sadly, in the end, corporate caution won over entrepreneurial conviction.

The one thing that is certain is that we're having a big stock room clearout as, whatever happens, a new owner may not wish to take on many of the products currently available. And if there is no new owner then we'd like to sell what we can before we close.

So share the love! Little love heart headphone audio splitters for sharing music (or videos on an iPad or tablet) with a standard 3.5mm jack with two ports. Available in two more designs - but hurry, only 5 left!
