Most people who read this blog use an organizer to be more efficient and effective at work or school.
But how about using your organizer for fun? Do you use to organize craft projects? Store knit or crochet patterns? Track your birding adventures? Plan your garden?
Me, I often have Pokemon Go notes in my Filofax.
As always on Friday, feel free to ask or discuss anything ring binder organizer related!

When is a good time to buy a new Filofax?
Is there a better time in the year to buy a new Filofax from a retail store or on-line?
I was once told that retailers are not allowed to change the dated diary inserts in a Filofax organiser, so they have to sell them with the current year still inside or supply the following year at their own cost. Or reduce the price of the organiser with the current year still in it.
I decided to put this 'theory' to the test whilst in London. Visiting John Lewis in Oxford Street, their range of Filofax organisers and inserts is much smaller these days than it was 5-10 years ago.
However, the sales assistant spotted me looking at the organisers that were all locked in a glass cabinet. She unlocked it and left me to look through what they had in stock.
I spotted a Heritage Personal and a Heritage Compact. The Personal had been marked down from £86.00 to £62.20. The Compact was still priced up at £85.00 and it wasn't in the correct box, the Personal was.
I took both to the sales assistant and asked them to check the price on both items. The Personal came up at £43.00 (half price) and the Compact was still showing up at £85.00! I bought the Personal one!!
Why the price difference? The Personal had a week on two pages dated insert in it. The Compact had an undated white paper with blue and black ink insert in it... so that confirmed the theory!
I had been tipped off by one of the people that attended the meet up a few days before, so I thought it was worth a visit to John Lewis to see what they had in stock and at what prices.
It pays to shop around and if you see something at the right price don't hesitate!

Free For All Friday No 667 by Laurie
Recently Filofax has come out with new Lifestyle Refills designed to help you with Meal Planning, Wellness, Projects & Goals.
As any long-time Filofax user knows, there used to be a plethora of pages designed to be used in Filofax organisers. Even in relatively recent Filofax history (about 10 years ago) there were Lifestyle Packs with themes including Travel, Health, and Family and even a "City Dweller Pack."
Sadly, those packs did not last long. Some of them were a little over-engineered, with pages that weren't really needed. But in the case of the Family Organiser pack, I would love to see those return. (For those who wish the same: Franklin Planner currently has something similar in their Simplicity For Moms inserts, and my beloved Boxclever Press (formerly Organised Mum) Family Life Book (which I've been using in the kitchen for the past 8 years now) has spiral bound pages so the pages are easy to remove, trim, and punch for an A5 binder which I and other users have done in the past.)
One of the reasons given for cutting back on their product lineup at the time was that stores had less shelf space for products, so they were cutting back to just the most popular items. (That was also a time in Filofax history where there were some ups and downs, which I'm sure was also a contributing factor to cutting back the product lineup.)
Now it seems that so many sales are online, they are able to expand their products more.
The new versions of the Lifestyle pages are more stripped-back with what looks like fewer types of pages, but the pages they do have are more useful.
I haven't personally used any of the new Lifestyle pages, but am very curious about them.
Have you used any of the new Filofax Lifestyle Refill pages? If so, what do you think of them?
As always on Fridays, feel free to ask and/or discuss anything ring binder organiser related!

Philofaxy Meet Up - 14 August 2021
Claudie, Rose, Emma & Steve |
We had an enjoyable but relaxed meet up on Saturday. Only four of us, but that didn't matter. Any number more than one is good!
I didn't get to take any photographs on the day the images above are from previous events! We were too busy talking I guess! Oh and eating food and drinking!.
The ordering system is a little different due to the restrictions. Instead of going to the counter to order your food, you use your phone to place and pay for your order and then the staff bring it to the table at the right time. We were able to secure a table upstairs in a quiet area which was good.
Being that it is approaching nearly two years since the last meet up (October 2019) there was a lot to catch up on. Not only recent events, but how we have each been coping and the changes in our lives that have happened.
We had a leisurely long lunch before we decided to go and look in Muji and The Journal Shop, the later had a short term 'pop-up' shop in Shoreditch. We jumped on a number 8 bus in New Oxford Street and that took us directly there. The traffic was a bit snarled up though!
I'm hoping that the next meet up will not be so far in to the future. Once the travel restrictions between France and UK settle down (They have even changed whilst we were in isolation) I hope to make it over for a long weekend. For a meet up and to see the family again.
Our grandson is growing and developing at quite a pace, and whilst we get lots of updates in the form of videos and photos every few days, there's no substitute for seeing them all face to face.
Thank you to everyone who supported us this weekend and in the past as well of course. In the mean time I will continue to do 'virtual meet ups' via Skype each month.
Take care everyone.

Lefax City slimline
For quite some time now, I haven't had a look on eBay for Filofaxes, but for some reason fancied having a little nose around recently. I do think that in general the prices seem higher than they used to be, but there are still bargains to be had. When I bid, I just set my maximum amount and don't tend to watch the end of the auction, so that I'm not tempted to go above the budget that I have set myself.
In the past, I've owned a number of slimlines, but sold them all when I decided to stick with just personal size for a number of years. However, I admit that I may have regretted slightly doing this as it can be quite a handy size for popping in your bag or a larger coat pocket. Due to COVID, our household is still mostly staying put, so I won't be travelling anywhere for some time to come, but I do think that a slimline can be very useful for simplifying or for planning a particular project.
Therefore, I was interested when I came across a Lefax City in a wonderful condition and a colour that I haven't seen before. I put in one bid and was delighted when I got the message announcing that I'd won!
As you can see, apart from a couple of minor ink stains, it's in beautiful condition for its age. The seller said that they purchased it from the Lefax shop in Covent Garden, London, in the early 1980s. It's not very clear in my photo, but on the front cover it says 'LEFAX City, Made in England, CITY 10 SP/6', with the 10 referring to its 10mm rings.
As per the catalogue details above, the City was available in black, burgundy, navy, red, brown and grey, but this one certainly isn't one of those colours. As I don't know much about Lefax binders, I reached out to our hugely knowledgeable reader community and this was Brenda's reply - 'I haven’t seen this colour before in LeFax, either! It’s intriguing. This looks like an older luxe model, with the gold leaf logo, etc. It’s sort of a blush or white based beige dye'.
