My Favourite Organiser - Sally
Thank you to Sally S for sending her 'Favourite Organiser' one of my favourites too!
1. What is your favourite organiser (Make/model/size)?
My favourite organiser is the Filofax Holborn in compact size. I’m a fairly recent convert from pocket size. I prefer smaller rings and 15mm is pretty much perfect for my needs. The Holborn leather feels sturdy and hard wearing.
2. How long have you owned it?
I’ve owned this Filofax for a couple of years and so far it has been working well. I only have one planner in use at any one time and this fits the bill. I also have a Calipso and Saffiano zip in case I feel like a change.
3. What is it that you like about it so much?
I particularly like the pocket configuration. Also the absence of a zip pocket and full length back pocket, both of which I never use. The ring size ensures I only include what is necessary. Above all I love the slim profile.
4. Do you use it all the time?
Yes, I have been using this organiser daily for about 18 months. It holds all I need. I occasionally experiment and swap it out for personal size but invariably get restless and am back in compact within hours.
5. Do you think the design could be improved in any way? How?
The only improvement I would like to see is a bigger pen loop. Being part elasticated I had assumed that most pens would fit…they don’t!

Free For All Friday No 763 by Laurie
Now that summer is well and truly here (for those of us in the northern hemisphere), how has your planning/ Filofax usage changed for the summer months? Do you downsize your organiser (either with a smaller page size, or smaller rings/ slimmer book) for portability?
I downsize to smaller rings and even though it holds fewer pages, it's still very useful when I'm traveling or just out and about more.
As always on Fridays, feel free to ask and/ or discuss anything ring binder organiser related!

Day Timer Catalogue 2007
Thank you to Mark in UK for sending me this catalogue. It is the UK catalogue for Day-Timer from 2007.
They still have a UK base in the West Country and their products seem to be quite reasonably priced still.
Looking at the current range, it isn't quite as extensive as it was back in 2007, but the designs and style don't appear to have changed much in over 15 years.
As a comparison you can see the Filofax 2007 catalogue here.

Free For All Friday - No. 762 by Anita
When we had some family to visit the other day, one of them noticed my Filofax sitting on my desk, alongside my smartphone, laptop and external monitor. As they know that I'm fairly IT savvy, they expressed surprise that I'm still also using a paper planner. It was quite an interesting conversation as they then realised that, whilst they also use lots of digital, they still both use paper for some things and could see the benefits of a loose-leaf organiser which is more portable. I'm not sure that either of them will convert to Filofax, but I enjoyed the discussion and it sounds like lots of people in their IT department still use paper on a regular basis.
Have you had a discussion like this recently, and/or managed to interest someone in using a paper planner?
And as always on Fridays, please feel free to discuss anything organiser related. I hope that you have a great weekend.

Your Favourite Organiser - Reader Series
We haven't had any of this series of posts for a few years, it's therefore a good time to restart it.
We are therefore looking for people to contribute to this series by answering the following questions:
- What is your favourite organiser (Make/model/size)?
- How long have you owned it?
- What is it that you like about it so much?
- Do you use it all the time?
- Do you think the design could be improved in any way? How?
Please attach a couple of photos of your favourite organiser, the outside and say the inside so people can appreciate the look and the layout of your favourite organiser. Phone camera pictures will be fine. Take them near a window in daylight if possible.
Please note that your favourite organiser can be any brand, not just Filofax.
Send in your responses by email to philofaxy at gmail dot com and we will slot them in to the schedule as we can.
You can view all of the previous ones by following this link.

Guest Post - Filofax Compact Setup - Sally S
Seeing my old post about my pocket Filofax reappear on FFAF recently I thought I would post an update on my setup. Things have changed!
After using a pocket Filofax for a number of years the page size finally became too small for me. My reading glasses are not always to hand.
I have generally preferred smaller rings so trying personal compact seemed the way to go…so far it is proving to be a success.
This is the setup in my compact Holborn.
The pockets usually just hold sticky notes and tabs.
At the front is a clear flyleaf which I use for sticky notes holding reminders and important items on my to-do list, then a number of list pages such as medium and long term to-dos, shopping lists, items I am waiting for etc. I keep a separate daily to-do list which is thrown away when completed.
The next section (so-called although I have no dividers, just an occasional tab) is my diary. I did consider the week on one page format which will fit on the rings. However, a quick analysis of my diary entries from previous years showed that only about 30% of days contained an entry. Therefore it seemed a waste of ring space to have a bigger diary than absolutely necessary. I am using a month on two pages. There is enough room as the only things I tend to record are birthdays, anniversaries and appointments. I can fit up to three entries per day in the space available. If I need more room I use the top and bottom of the page for notes.
I also have a Philofaxy year planner for a general overview.
The next few pages are contacts…both addresses and mobile numbers.
After this come my Christmas pages which are currently mostly empty, just headings.
Then a few more notes pages…my book list, Filofax wish list (not that I need any more), etc.
I also have a world map and London Underground map, only occasionally referenced. Not really necessary but I just like having them in my planner.
A few sheets of spare paper are kept at the back, then finally a top opening envelope which holds ring reinforcers, Filofax jot pad sheets and scrap paper.
All in all this format is working well, with enough room on the rings to fit in all I need and is so portable.
Thank you Sally for sharing your set up with us.
