Tuesdays are your chance to ask any Filofax related questions you might have.
So fire away and we will collectively try to answer your questions or offer opinions.
I would also like to announce that the winner of the Fusion Personal size Filofax is Tim who answered the two questions correctly and was entry number 14.
Q1. On what date did Nan introduce Steve to the readers of Philofaxy? - 23rd June 2009
Q2. What was Steve's first post on Philofaxy, title and date... a little clue it wasn't in 2005 – 25th June 2009 – Filofax on Ebay – it pays to be patient
There were 30 correct entries, thank you to everyone who entered. There will be another give away competition coming up soon.

ReplyDeleteA question for any Pennybridge owners. Is the removable A5 suitable for use in its own, as a full-time binder. I realised I could do with an A5 for a lot of work info that doesn't change frequently, which would be useful for a lot of conference calls done from home. The problem is, there's hardly any compact A5 and they are all expensive. I noticed the Pennybridge has 20mm rings, but typically, the filofax site has zero photos of the actual binder. The Pennybridge has mainly poor reviews on the site with the majority saying the iPad regularly falls out, so I wouldn't even use the iPad case, just the binder part, so I'm thinking of looking for a cheap one just for the binder. Ive seen them going for £20 on eBay. Can anyone tell me about the binder quality and suitability in more detail, or does anyone have some photos of the binder itself? Is the cover thin and flimsy, or is it robust enough for full use? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Tim! I doubt it will match your Filoflex but I hope you find a use for it. (I still haven't found anything with 13mm or 15mm rings I could use to do the same, it's like looking for a Unicorn).
Hi Paul
DeleteYes it's removable, but the backing 'card' is made of a stiff plastic, so it's not like a conventional organiser, there's also no closure clasp or band to keep it closed. No pockets in the organiser either, they are all in the case.
Steve
Thanks Steve. Does that mean the front and back covers are the kinf of thinnish, flexible plastic that you find on things like the wire-bound notebooks in Paperchase etc? The pockets aren't an issue for me, as I'm thinking it would only ever live by the desk. Just if I did have to take it to a meeting locally, I don't want something that looks like it came in a novelty gift bag! There's definitely a place for a more budget-priced A5 compact with 15mm rings. They seem to be aimed at the premium end of the price range, which puzzles me, as I personally don't associate them with "premium" or "luxury", more "practical". But then I don't work in Marketing....
DeleteWow! I never win competitions! The last time I got a prize, it was a bottle of "re-gifted" bubblebath at my daughter's school tombola!
ReplyDeleteAs an A5 man for many years, I'm going to enjoy trying out this Personal size. Even my A5 Filoflex can be impractical at times (for example in a rucksack). I'll add to Steve's review and, if in the end, it doesn't work for me, I'll make the binder available on Adspot, with proceeds going to charity.
Congratulations Tim! Hope you enjoy exploring the personal size. You may find it useful to storing a particular type of info - I have a slimline I keep in my desk with my web access codes and passwords - probably a product of getting older and not being able to remember them anymore!
DeleteCongratulations Tim!
DeleteAnd if your Filoflex ever doesn't work for you, please let me know!
ReplyDeleteFor those who have no idea what this is about - see Philofaxy 11th/12th July 2012.
DeletePaul - I've had a lot of emails asking about creating a superslim A5. Filofax have at least now manufactured several with 20mm rings - Boston, Luxe and, of course, our old padded friend Adelphi! I think you would be better off with one of these than a plastic backed, pocketless Pennybridge iPad case. I'm convinced there is a market for Filofax to go even slimmer. My Flex has a 13mm ring mechanism fitted and serves me very well. If I come across a mech or old binder with something suitable, I'll certainly be in touch!
Congratulations Tim!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Tim!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Tim and lots of fun with the Personal-Size. I hope you'll enjoy it. :-)

ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI am looking for a cheap binder to fit my used A5 sheets in, for archiving purposes.
any suggestions?
Thank you!
The Apex is pretty cheap. Also, there are occasionally Filofax storage binders on eBay still, even cheaper.
DeleteCongratulations Tim! Hope you enjoy exploring the Personal size - as with the other sizes, it does have it's own unique merits. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Tim! Enjoy your new Fusion!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about buying some leather care items for my Finsbury but I haven't a clue where to start, what to buy or how to do it! Any tips??
ReplyDeletePS I'm a student so an expensive, quickly used product isn't ideal...
Thanks all!
Nicole, Steve has a link in the FaQ to a company that provide a lot of tips on looking after leather. It's item 18 on the FAQ tab. Additionally, quite a few people (myself included) have used the original Nivea hand cream (in UK it comes in a blue tin with white writing). Used sparingly with several applications, it should rehydrate your binder
DeleteThat's brilliant, thanks Paul! I want make sure I take good care of my A5 Finsbury because I suspect I'm going to love it for a long time! I didn't really take good care of my Metropol which is now missing flecks of the material (though of course leather preserver wouldn't have helped!) so I'm going to try and keep the Finsbury in tip top condition =)
DeleteCongrats Tim!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Tim! Maybe the Fusion will serve you well as a travel-filofax? I'm sure it'll take the occasional beating in a rucksack rather well ... ;-)
