Filofax Music Manuscript

Looking through my 'stash' of old inserts that have come from a variety of different sources, I came across an unopened pack of form 210 dated 1984 in Personal size.

I believe this insert was also available in Deskfax size as well, which would make more sense.

I'm not a music composer, so I don't know how much music you would get on to a page like this.

Are any of you music composers?

Free For All Friday No 655 by Laurie

Last year my job I loved (social media manager) went away due to the pandemic. Recently it has come back, although in a reduced capacity, and I am thrilled to be back at it! Immediately I fired up a tabbed section in my Filofax with work details, content ideas, and a social media posts planner (I use the Philofaxy Month Per Page Horizontal free printable pages). There have been some changes to the types of content I'll be doing, and a couple of the platforms are different, so I added notes on those changes in my Work tabbed section too.

As things start to open back up again, are you using your Filofax differently than you did during lockdown? Like me, have you returned to things you did before? Or are you doing different things now? How has your Filofax use adapted to your changing situations?

And as always on Fridays, feel free to discuss and/ or ask anything ring-binder organiser related!

Filofax Jot Pad

The Filofax Jot Pad is a useful accessory or insert, I'm not sure which!

Each sheet in the pad measures 85mm by 55mm. It will fit most page sizes as the three holes match the usual 19mm spacing.

Instead of a simple card backing to the pad it has an additional flap, this can be slotted into a card slot on your inside front or back cover, making the jot pad readily available to 'jot' something down.

The sheets are easily moved from one organiser to another as well of course.

They come in a pack of three in different colours:

Have you every used a Jot Pad?

Current writing instruments?

The right pens and the right paper come together in harmony to make the perfect organiser experience. Although some people prefer to use pencil instead of or as well as pens in their organisers.

I recently rediscovered my technical drawing pens in a cupboard whilst looking for something else. They are very nice to use, but not for casual use in an organiser!

This year I've gone back to using a Pilot Frixion Slim pen for my daily use, although I keep a Uni-ball Vision Elite 0.5 pen and my Pentel mechanical pencil to hand as well.

I still use a fountain pen in my daily journal.

What are you using to write in your organiser?

Free For All Friday No. 654 by Anita

Looking at some of my posts on here, I've realised that I've been using my simplified set up since 2018! I'm definitely a creature of habit in some ways and when I find something that works, I tend to stick with it. I know that some of you enjoy changing your set ups, so I find it interesting to read about it, as you can always learn something new from others in the community.

Due to family commitments, I have less free time nowadays, so I'm pleased to say that my Kensington is doing a grand job of helping me keep track of everything. I remember reading a quote from David Allen that said something like 'Your tools need to be complex enough to manage your work, but simple enough that you could still use them when you're sick in bed'. I've definitely found over time that my current set up does that and the only change that I've made since the original simplified one is to add a projects section.

How long have you been using your current set up(s) and how are you getting on with it?

And as always on Fridays, please feel free to discuss anything organiser related. I hope that you have a lovely weekend.

20 May 2021

Which personal organiser would you buy in 2021 as your first organiser?

Think about this for a moment before you dive in to the comments! You are going to comment aren't you... promise me you will.....

You have decided you are going to use a paper organiser, how you decide that in 2021 doesn't matter.

You might have come across one of the many groups on Facebook. Or you have looked at lots of photos on Instagram, Or dipped your toe in to the many videos on You Tube.

You start looking around and to be honest the choice and price range is fairly wide these days.

Even within the scope of 'leather' organisers. Sure there is leather and there's leather.... the quality does vary, but there's still a lot to choose from and in some ways it is easier to sort out what to buy by asking peoples opinions, compared to 1986 at least!

What would you buy as your 'First Organiser' ?  New or Used? Size? Let us know in the comments.....

Page Lifters

Page lifters, you might have heard of them, but never used them or realised what they are for.

The need for page lifters is mainly for people with 30 mm rings or larger. The pages at the front and back of your organiser are more likely to get trapped compared to a smaller organiser.

Some commercial page lifters have a curved profile, they act as a spring, pushing the pages closer to the centre of your rings as you close your organiser. They just need to be stiffer than the paper to work.

The page lifters have to have slotted holes in them so that they too don't get trapped on the rings, the slotted holes let the page lifter conform to the curve of the rings better.

In one of Neil's latest videos, he shows how his home made page lifters work.

There is quite a large selection of page lifters on Etsy if you don't want to try making your own.

Do you use Page Lifters?

Free For All Friday - No. 653 by Steve

I've been keeping a journal for quite a few years, I use a bound day per page planner, it is easy to file them away at the end of the year. I don't look back at them very often, but it is good for remembering events.

When I first started using a Filofax back in 1986, I was using it more as a journal than as a planner, I still have the diary inserts stored in my Winchester and it makes amusing reading!

When it comes to doing Free For All Friday, I often look back through our archives to see what we were posting about 5 or 10 years ago in that week... 10 years ago today was the first New York Meet Up.. Nan will I'm sure have happy memories of the event.

Do you keep a journal, a record of what you have been doing each day either in your Filofax or in another planner/book?

Of course it is Friday, so please feel free to discuss anything organiser related. Have a good weekend.

Blank Pages Template

Prompted by Nan's FFAF (Free For All Friday) last week. I thought I would put together a template Word file for blank pages.

You can download the file and add your own text easily or a map or anything and then print it out and you have your own page.

Theoretically, it is possible to fit 3 personal pages in to an A4 sheet, but the left and right margins are quite thin, on some printers, the page will not print, hence I decided to leave it to just two pages per sheet!

Here are the files:
