Today I would like to introduce you to Khadija.
I am a final year nursing student in Canada soon to begin a 3-month placement in the ER (eeps!). Hoping the Filofax keeps me sane and on top of my game!
1. When did you buy your first organiser and what was it?
I first purchased the turquoise personal domino in 2016. I used it every day and I found it wore poorly. This is gross but the string holding it together turned brown. Also the plastic cover attracted unflattering pen marks. I was disappointed in how quickly the domino deteriorated. I use my planners but I don’t believe I’m unduly harsh on them.
2. Out of the organisers you own which is your current favourite (Style and Size)?
I am currently using a fluro pink original in personal size which I purchased after flirting with bullet journaling in a Leuchtturm. I missed the Filofax very much and realized how advantageous the ring system is. Bound planners don’t allow you to carefully curate only what you want or need. And discbound systems require thick, expensive paper for durability. Ring bound planners take care of those flaws. I just hope the fluro pink wears better than my old domino. I hope if I stain the leather someone that I can dye it black at least, which is an improvement over the plastic domino.
3. How many Filofax or other brands of organisers do you own?
I have an A5 and a personal pink fluro original. I never use the A5 but I like having it on hand just in case. I think the A5 format in general is comfortable and roomy so it’s handy to have even if it isn’t portable.
4. What do you use your organisers for?
I use my organiser to manage my current role as a bridesmaid, my volunteer research assistant commitments, tasks associated with school, my catsitting schedule, and all the little details I need to keep on top of for my nursing degree.
5. How many sections do you have in your organiser and what is each section used for?
I have five broad sections:
1) A monthly where I list major project due dates, recurring monthly events (like leather conditioning), vacations, etc.
2) A weekly where I list small project due dates and things I want to accomplish in each day
3) Trackers: my daily diet, a finance tracker, a weight tracker (trying to lose weight), a habit tracker
4) Reference pages: Inspiring quotes, studying tips, etc..
5) Project pages: I have a page for my bridesmaid tasks, a page for what I need to do to update all my IDs that are soon expiring, etc..
6. If you could design your own Filofax what would it feature?
An A5 or A6 (not personal, even though that’s what I use) compact leather planner in fluro pink with lots of pockets and card clots and no big back opening like the Gillio compagna. Extremely floppy and soft cow’s leather (nothing exotic) with no stiffener. I’d like the leather to have natural gradations in color like the Malden rather than just being one shade.
7. What's your favourite Filofax tip or hack?
Check out pinterest and facebook to get ideas for inserts. The best inserts are the ones you make yourself! I also like sitting back sometimes and working with the philofaxy podcast playing in the background. It’s like jazz to my ears
8. Have you ever attended a Philofaxy meet-up? if not do you intend to one day?
I’ve never attended one but I’d love to in the future. It might be a good way to explore a distant city and make some new friends.
9. What was the last movie you watched?
It was for school and it was called Sick Around the World. Actually fascinating and I think anyone and everyone should watch it. It compares the pros and cons of different health care systems around the world. Should be compulsory viewing!
10. What was the last book you read?
I just started In a Dark, Dark Room, which I would give about 7/10. Not a fan of the writing but the setting and story was interesting. It’s a page-turner! I love my old fashioned British mysteries. Agatha Christie, etc. And this book is sort of in the same vein. It makes sense that I like the Filofax!
Thank you Khadija

Free for All Friday No. 441 by Nan
I was just looking through an organizer I used in 2012, and found an entry that read, simply, "Jenny's house - manicotti." That one word brought back an entire evening's worth of good memories.
Even if you don't have time to write a lot, don't forget the power of one word.
Of course, since it's Friday, you can say as many words as you want!

Opening and Closing the rings on your organiser correctly.
Are all opening and closing the rings correctly? I'm sure some of us have been watching You Tube videos and seen people pull the rings open with their fingers!
To ensure that you don't damage the ring mechanism on your Filofax personal organiser, always use the tabs at the ends of the ring mechanism to open the rings. Place your organiser on a firm surface and press evenly on both tabs at the same time.
To ensure that you don't damage the ring mechanism on your Filofax personal organiser, always use the tabs at the ends of the ring mechanism to open the rings. Place your organiser on a firm surface and press evenly on both tabs at the same time.
Do not under any circumstances pull the rings open using the rings themselves; this could result in the internal mechanism becoming damaged.
Opening the rings
To close the rings use your rings on either sides of both sets of rings with a light even pressure and the rings should snap shut. Be careful to not trap your fingers in the closing rings.
Closing the rings
The mechanism does not require any routine maintenance or oiling, just an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth will keep the metal clean and rust free.

Tell us about...... 5
So if you have more than one organiser and I'm sure there aren't many people that read Philofaxy that only have one.... which is 'the one' you use most.
The one you come back to and stay using for months at a time. You might try using others, but there is one in your collection (large or small) that you love so much (it might not be perfect) that you come back and use it again and again.
Please tell us in the comments below.

PlannerCon Europe - First Speaker is confirmed.
With a little over six months to go, PlannerCon Europe is already our favourite highlight of Autumn. People from over ten countries have already bought their tickets and are planning an unforgettable weekend in the heart of Europe.
We have a scoop here on Philofaxy today: the first speaker of the two-day program!
Meet Theresa Hall - artist and journal keeper extraordinaire. This world traveler and nomad has lived all over Europe and America and is currently residing in Colorado and California with her husband Mark and their millions (or so it seems) of pets.
Theresa is an avid Bullet Journaller and a mixed media collage artist with journals you can only dream of. Her planners of choice are the Hobonichi planners, which she uses for journalling, art journalling and collages as well as for Bullet Journal-style planning. She carries them everywhere and they not only house her planning but also her memories, drawings, ticket stubs, napkins, and anything else she takes home from her frequent travels. With her love for the Hobonichi journals, she collaborated with Gillio Firenze on the design of their Appunto journal covers.
Some of her journals have been displayed at the Yorktown, Virginia library where she also taught classes. Her work was published in Somerset Studio magazine and in several books, such as "A World of Artist Journal Pages", "Map Art Lab", "Good Mail Day", "Beyond Paper Dolls", "Journal Starters", "Sampler Volume One" and many artist magazines. Her mixed artwork pieces and hand made jewelry have been sold in galleries in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tucson, Arizona and Venice Beach, California.
Those who have met her and have peeked inside one of her filled journals know they are remarkable and unique - something the people at Hobonichi also noticed when they featured her journal pages on their website!
She was also one of the instructors at the recent PlannerCon 2017 that was held in San Francisco in March, where she taught "Bullet Journaling in Any Planner" in 4 filled to capacity workshops.
We are all jealous of her creative skills and inspirational journals, and her results seem so unreachable for most of us. "I can't draw!", we say, or "I wish I was as creative as her!".
Turns out: you don't need to be an artist to start art journalling. With some simple 'start now' techniques, Theresa will teach us the "art" of Art Journaling For The Non-Artist, unleashing creative powers you didn't know you had.
She'll also be teaching a highly requested Bullet Journalling workshop after the overwhelming responses at the USA PlannerCon.
We can't wait for you to meet this unique, kind and creative lady in October!
To see more of her artwork, follow her on Instagram: @tofarawayplaces.

New from Filofax in 2017
In the last week Filofax have announced some new products.
They have brought out a new accessory pen loop in A5 and Personal sizes. This has a pen loop and two slip pockets. One front and one at the back I think.
The pen loop is elastic so it should cope with the majority of pens we use. The pen holder comes in red, yellow, blue, green and black.
It is quite reasonably priced, more expensive than the Filofax Flex ones I've been using, but the Flex ones don't have the pockets, but cheaper than say a custom leather one from Van der Spek.
The pen holder is available on-line from Filofax UK and other on-line stores.
Also this week they also announced three new colours in the Filofax Original range again in A5 and Personal sizes. The three new colours are Coral, Patent Rose and Turquoise.
The rest of the design appears to be unchanged on this model.
The new colours are available to order from Filofax UK and other on-line retailers.
We look forward to more news from Filofax, may be some additional colours for the Heritage?

Free For All Friday No. 440 by Laurie
Happy Friday everyone!
We're in the last two months of school now, which is a very busy time. As I usually do when things get busy, I'm questioning my task management method.
My life is very task-heavy with work, family and personal things and I'm always looking for a better way to manage it all.
I have my lists of things that need to be done this week on my week + notes pages. Anything not done gets rewritten to the following week. So that begs the question, it must not have really been necessary to do during that exact week if I was able to put it off. So where should I write tasks that need to be done sometime relatively soon but not urgently, so I don't forget about them?
I also have separate work lists, long-term lists, etc in tabbed sections. But I'm getting to the point where I feel like I have task lists everywhere and I'm not sure where to look to see what I need to do.
I'm starting to think I need to simplify my whole process and just have tasks in my Tasks section, with a page per topic for personal and work.
How do you handle tasks?
And as always on Fridays, feel free to ask/ discuss anything ring-binder related!

What will we do?
Thank you to Karine for spotting this 'gem'
From a principal's publication 1815: students today depend on paper too much, they don't know how to write on a slate without getting chalk dust all over themselves, they can't clean a slate properly, what will they do when they run out of paper

Tell us about...... 4
So I'm sure quite a few of us buy and sell organisers with view to keeping the size of our organiser collection under control... I've not learnt how to do this yet!
However, I'm sure there must be some of you out there that have sold organisers and then later regretted it. May be not straight away but a few weeks later you wished you had never sold a particular one. Sound familiar?
What was the one organiser you regretted selling and you wished you could get it back again?
Please tell us in the comments below.

Filofax UK 2016
Today we go back to the end of 2015 for the year 2015/2016.
It is interesting to see how the emphasis on this catalogue has moved away from organisers and their tablet cases feature heavily in this one. There are no bags shown in the catalogue either. All part of the company restructuring I guess.
This particular one is the UK edition, I also have a European one. Similar pictures, different layout but no prices in the European one, so I spent several hours doing the UK one. It is A4 format hence why it took so long to do!
This is possibly the last printed catalogue that Filofax might produce, I was told they were not producing one for 2016/2017.

Filofax/Lefax Catalogues?
We have been gathering together our collection of old catalogues on Philofaxy for over 3 years now.
In the early stages I had a loan of the catalogue archive from the Filofax marketing department. It took quite a long time to scan all these catalogues in and to then share them via the blog.
You can see the collection to date on the catalogue page. There are some gaps in the catalogues we have, although I can't be 100% sure that catalogues were published every year.
These catalogues give us a snapshot of the model range at the time of publication of the catalogue so we have been able to build up a picture of when models came on to the market and when they disappeared.
They also give us details about the history of the companies, office locations and such like. It is a bit like a jigsaw puzzle but you don't know what the final picture looks like!
Do you have any old catalogues tucked away that will help us fill in any of the gaps?
If you do we would love to see them. Please contact steve at philofaxy dot com if you can help.
Thank you.
