I would like to create my own recipe/cooking inserts but I am really struggling with Pages. For all you Macbook owners out there, what do you use to design your own planner inserts (in personal size preferably)?
Lynn, take a look at the diary inserts page and scroll down to the videos, there's one there of me doing inserts using MS Office for Mac 2011 which is what I tend to use all the time.
Thanks, Steve! I'll take note of it. I currently do not have broadband in my new condo and am using a ridiculously expensive 4G wifi thing with a very limited data plan, so I'm trying not to stream videos for now. But once I get proper broadband, I will definitely be checking out your videos!
How much further will Filofax reduce their range of binders do you think? I suppose it might just be me but the range currently available seems much depleted. I have no need for a large Filofax and so my interest tends to revolve around the slimline (none ) and the mini of which there seem to be fewer and fewer. We know that the range of inserts is very limited but is the Filofax binder itself going the same way?
I haven't viewed the Filofax website much because I am not using their binder or insert. I have a slim black binder of a different brand and I use it for spending and other information. It is a very nice binder. I can see why several people like the slim binders. I have seen the holiday catalog for Franklin Covey and there are some new binders and colors since the summer catalog.
Hi Steve. My "slim" binder is by Bosca, a U.S. brand. I purchased it long ago in a stationer but I think they have not sold leather binders for a long time. They sell leather wallets and other accessories. Technically my binder is not a slim one because it has 13 mm rings. Some people on this blog have said that it has to have 11 mm rings to be a slim binder? The rings look very small to me and because of that I assumed it was a slim one.
Slimline organisers have rings up to 13mm. The Filofax Holborn Slimline has 13mm oval rings, for example, so the 11mm statement is incorrect. Compact binders usually have 15mm rings but that's not a hard and fast rule either. Time Manager (TMI) Compacts have 17mm rings.
Reading these posts, you might believe that everyone seeks the largest ring size possible. In fact, there are quite a few of us who have successfully pared down. Combining digital and analogue my main organiser has long been a 13mm Holborn. With the need to keep customers, I am baffled as to why Filofax has phased out the Slimline models.
Hi Tim. Thanks for clarifying that information. I considered my Bosca binder a slim one but then after reading a few comments I was not sure. I am using a Franklin Covey pocket binder as my main planner. My pocket binder has 16 mm rings compared to the 15 mm rings of the Filofax compact Luxe, my previous binder. It is about 1/2 inch shorter in height than the Luxe. I can add more pages and they turn easily without getting torn at the holes. I also use a personal size insert by punching three new holes and trimming a tad off the bottom of the pages. It is nice to have the writing space on the personal size insert in my pocket binder.
I don't see many people in person that use a personal size binder or larger one as their main planner. They use a compact, slim, or pocket one with their gadgets or a notebook style planner without the coil. I like the combination of technology and a smaller binder.
Be, thank you for posting this. Just this morning, I was looking thru the new FC catalog at some of the new binders. I was wondering if their pocket size binder would accomodate bigger paper. It looks like the compact size paper might fit into the pocket binder, with a little trim. I need the width of the compact paper, so trimming the bottom would be ok.
You are welcome Allee. I trimmed 3/16 inch off the bottom of my personal size insert and did not lose any writing space. I hope that your pages fit in your binder.
Hi I am looking to purchase a hole punch for my A5 binder (The Original) and have narrowed it down to the following:
http://www.sevenk.co.uk/ultra-thin-iphone-case-3.html (I know this link doesn't look like a puncher - I think the sevenk website has some naming issues!) and http://www.hummelman.com/details.asp?code=189170&origin=products
Would anyone be able to provide advice/reviews of these products?

ReplyDeleteHi there, Does Filofax introduce ew designs ever year ?
ReplyDeleteYes we normally start to see announcements just after Christmas with the new range being phased in over several months through the new year.
