1982 is not the late 80s i know - but that is when the Commodore 64 started selling. I learned my first coding on the C64 - loved working out the algorithms with a flow chart then code a game from scratch in Basic. I would love to have a working full version of a C64 now - not the replica game version that came out this year
ReplyDelete1987 without a doubt. This was the peak year for Filofax with stationers having truly massive displays of classic binders (the Winchester alone came in 5 ring sizes and several colours) and literally hundreds of different packs of leaves and other inserts to peruse. And all British made (as an iconic British brand should be). Everyone seemed to have a Filofax (or a Time Manager or Time System) and you would constantly compare set-ups with colleagues.

I was a child then and did not see any real filofaxes. i feel i missed out!! i had a binder but it was definitely not a filofax
Deleteooops and i hit enter before finishing .. so yes C64. I was a child at the time, and i did all my flowcharts for programming in an old ring binder, i dont know what brand it was, butit was a personal size. so i would want my C64 and my 'filofax'that had my programming notes
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tim that 1987 would be a good year to pick. I would visit Heffers bookshop in Cambridge and bring back a leather jotta in each available colour.
ReplyDeleteYes, 1987 would be my year too, as it was when I got my first Filofax. A personal in dark brown, type name unknown and lost in the mists of time now. I remember the excitement of all those inserts, choosing new pages and the stationery bliss which was Harold Hockey's shop in Bristol.I could never pass that store without nipping in. Happy days!! xx
ReplyDelete1984 very specifically, just so I could go see ghostbusters in the cinema as though it was the first time all over again! It would also mean I could buy a brand new, crisp, clean leather filofax and a new PDA that would fit in it and choose lots of business inserts for it. #goodtimes

ReplyDelete1987, Friday October 16. Go short on the Dow and FTSE and use the proceeds to buy out Filofax and run it as my personal hobby. Who’s in?!
ReplyDeleteMe! 1987/88 is the time I'd like to go back to. If not helping to buy out Filofax then at least picking up some Winchesters 5/4 ring especially blue and green + some other models. Some limited edition Winchesters from that time. Packs of inserts they did back then but don't do now.
DeleteFenwicks in Newcastle, when they had a pen department and displayed filofaxes beautifully in glass display cases. Though they didn't shut that down until shortly after the aqua Maldens were out.
