I get so conflicted with my planner use. I like having everything all in one place but it doesn’t all fit in any of the sizes I try. Tried bullet journaling but don’t like having to make ‘spreads’. A5 is too heavy to lug around. Personal and pocket are too small. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of planner users have the same issue. I have to use an A5 size for my diary because everything I need to do won't fit into anything smaller. I also find the need to have a diary always open where I can see it, which means I use other folders and notebooks for project-specific notes, various lists and so on. And, as you say, it's all too much to lug around.
DeleteI have a Filofax Mini Finchley which is portable, and which I also carry my cash in, so I am currently experimenting with using A7 pieces of paper as a sort of portable version of all the notebooks and folders I use. Basically, every day I note my diary entries and some things I need to get done to an piece of A7-sized paper. Things brings together information from lots of sources, including my PC. I then work from that single A7 sheet and, as it's portable, I can take it with me and leave all the rest of the diaries etc. on my desk. I can slip it into the Mini Finchley or check it on the go as required. The diaries and notebooks continue to have their place in my working processes, but by writing just what I need for that day only, I make the whole system portable.
It's very simple and works very well for me - I'll make a YouTube video about it at some stage. I've found it to be a useful way of overcoming the too big/too small planner issue many of us face all the time, and I haven't had to tweak the system much yet either, which is a good sign. Maybe it's not for everyone - I don't mind working from loose pieces of paper - but it might provide you with some inspiration.
Like Graham says, I think that finding the right size is a fairly common issue.
