Our HP Photosmart 2575 All in One Printer/Copier/Scanner will print personal size single sided quite happily.
I've found in the past the best way to find out the capabilities on HP printers is to look up the manual on the HP site and look at 'Media Handling' in the specifications. You are looking at the paper size limits (Personal 171 x 95mm) and the paper weight it can handle. Personal paper is between 60 gsm and 80gsm typically. But if you are making dividers you might be using 160 gsm or higher may be.
I use a HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. The predecessor didn't have the word PLUS in it, but has hardly any differences. I print direct onto FF personal all the time. This one also prints duplex, essential for me, for not wasting paper.
What kind of paper(weight) do people here recommend for printing your own inserts? I've tried the Filofax computer paper, but I find it a bit too flimsy.
I print straight onto Filofax branded plain white paper, it works fine with my printer. I print quite a few tri-fold inserts too, and just use normal Staples/Rymans/Partners photocopy paper, that works perfectly well for me.
I use 120gm paper from Staples and trim down to A5 or personal. They do have a trimming service, so choose the paper you love and go!! Hope this is allowed Steve, but a tip off for self printers like me.... a company called Printer Inks in the UK, do the cheapest and best quality own branded cartridges in each type EVER!!! Next day delivery too. Just bought FOUR of each colour my Epson takes in LARGE capacity ink for £17.99 last month. Great value and quality.... and no, I'm not affiliated to them in any way BTW.
I decided to give my HP photosmart C410 another go at printing filofax paper. It didn't go well. Seven sheets went rough and only produced one decent copy. Then there was a pare jam and now the machine is dead! I've looked at the machine you mentioned ,Steve, but it's no longer available and the ones on eBay are in the US. Paul, the machine you mentioned is more than I want to pay as I already have two decent printers - well, when the H P decides to wake up - and I just want a machine for Filofax, really. Any other ideas?
Thanks again, Steve. I've cleared the paper jam but the printer is still unresponsive. I have a b/w Lexmark laser printer and a Canon pixma something, which was perfect for Filofax personal but has been dead a while now.
Hello! I am new to FF coming back to paper after a few years of electronic chaos. Like other newbies, I am struggling with what size to get and have watched videos and read blogs nonstop for over a week. Who knew choosing a planner could be so exhausting! I've gotten a beautiful Kate Spade which I am selling because it is black. I really need some color! So, when and how does FF announce new colors? Are they seasonal? I've only seen one rumor about a silver/gold coming out. Not even sure where I saw that. Am I just being impatient?? I have a feeling this is the start of a new addiction! Thanks much!
I'm looking for a cheap colour printer that will use Filofax personal size paper. Can anyone recommend one they're using at the moment?

Deleteforgot to say, the predecessor was reduced quite heavily when I saw it last month, so it was good value.

ReplyDeleteWhat are the two other printers?

ReplyDeleteHi Kate
DeleteIf your Lexmark laser printer has a manual feed tray for envelopes then use that. I use our HP laser printer to print my personal size pages.
Lots of hints and tips in this post: http://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2013/06/printing-your-own-diary-inserts.html
The main one to remember is to 'fan' the pages before you put them in the tray otherwise the printer will try to gobble all of your pages in one go!
Many thanks for your help, Steve. I'll give it a go.
