Free for All Friday No. 401 by Nan

One thing I do electronically instead of in a Filofax is my monthly/weekly work calendar. Like many people, I'm obliged to use a shared work calendar so we can all see (and schedule around) each other's appointments. Outlook, Google Calendar, and similar electronic calendars excel at that.

Here's one thing they're not great at: Getting an overview of the full year, with timelines for vacations and conferences. I'm going to try a Filofax fold-out Year Planner to get a yearly overview.

Do you use year planners? What's your tool for the big picture?

Of course, since it's Friday, all ring organizer discussion is welcome!

  1. My yearly overview lives on paper inserts in my planner as digital applications are just providing fragmental views that don't serve my need for the bigger picture. Well, at work it must be outlook, but that's just another work scheduling module, operational working modus but without any strategical level. For proper functioning, I need both.

  2. Good morning everyone. I'm looking for a template in Mini foldout format, like the Yearly planner or World Map. Does anyone have the ability to show me how such a page can be set up please? Thanks in anticipation.

    1. Hi Steve,
Try downloading the Word version of the Personal on A4 year planner and resize the table to the required height for Mini, you might have to reduce the font sizes as well. But in theory it might work!

    2. Thank you. I shall try that.

    3. I've emailed you a first stab at one using a modified source file. I've not tried printing it yet! But you have to start somewhere!

  3. I've always found portable monthly and annual overviews totally indispensable! It's something that digital still cannot match. Indeed, I'm regularly transcribing major events from my multiple digital calendars (I use Pocket Informant - brilliant!) to paper! The Time Manager (TMI) pocket diary was always good for this, as was the Flex by Filofax pullout year Planner (now discontinued, sadly). Filofax punched pull outs are still great in all sizes as are the Midori dated monthly (with year planner too) in regular and passport. The Moleskine monthly is also good for a bound book. I've used them all and still always have at least two paper yearly overviews as I love to plan months ahead!

  4. I am wondering if anyone knows where my Filofax personal "Dorset" is on the listing in your files page. It's a beautiful smooth black leather with a snap closure. The inside is tan leather and reads Filofax Personal Dorset Italian Leather. On the inside front cover are seven card slots and a pocket. The inside back cover has a slit for a pad of paper and another pocket plus pen holder. It's definitely "vintage" from early 1990s? Before that? I'm the original owner and it was only lightly used when I moved to a larger A5 due to new job. I want to offer it for sale because it is so lovely, almost like new and shouldn't just be sitting around. Any guidance on ring size, description and value would be greatly appreciated. I'm in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

    1. Please consider offering it via the Ad-spot page. Adverts are put on the page for 2 months (the dates after each advert is the expiry date)

    2. I did not find a code. I looked through all the papers in it from the last time I used and found Filofax paper and dividers dated 2001 and Dayrunner grid paper dated 1990. A dear friend of mine bought a Filofax right after she saw mine and she may remember when we bought them.

How many photos can you handle at a time? And how many kb or higher? I've taken some photos just now (and was again reminded of Filofax quality in all the details!).

  5. Thanks. I just recently found Filofaxy -- so interesting! I'm a mobile phone right now so a bit difficult to check, but can I upload photographs to Ad-Spot? I'd love to get more information on the planner from this forum before listing.

    1. Hi Karen
Take a read of the sellers guide: http://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2014/01/buying-and-selling-organisers-on.html it has all the details and you then email me the text and the photos and I do the rest of the work to get it on line etc.

    2. I thought the Dorset was a much newer organiser. According to our archive catalogues it came out in June 2002. Was the Dorset name used on a model many years before? Karen - if you find the three letter code imprinted (usually hidden) into the leather, we can date it (approximately).

    3. I'll check for imprint when I'm home, thanks. I wish I could remember when I bought it but cannot and will trust/hope that others will figure it out :-)
