Can someone help? I've searched and searched but I can't find a picture of a widened Senior with standard inserts inside. I'd like to see what sort of space is available with personal size inserts that are then widened to A6. Web link or pic link much appreciated thanks folks.
Thanks Steve. I'm considering a replacement for the Malden but slightly wider. I was assuming the A6 widening would be the answer. Any suggestions on what VDS to go to?
I am using A6 inserts in my personal Kendal (i.e. I punch A6 sized payer with my personal punch. If you cut your own inserts you could even cut them as wise as a6 but as long as personal, and there still would be plenty of space left for tabs at the topm but not at the side.
Hi Amanda When you say 'wider' how much wider are you thinking about? For example a 30mm Standard (Personal) fitted with 25mm rings would give you approximately 5mm more in width. Others on the VDS Facebook group have had custom Standards made wider so that they can use Franklin Covey inserts in them which are 171x110 mm (10 mm wider than Filofax) But anything is possible within reason with Van Der Spek !!
I am currently using an A5 compact as my main and only planner, it sits on my desk and goes out with me in my bag. The Compact only has by planner pages in it plus a few other pages. I have another larger ring A5 which I use as my 'reference' organiser, this sits closed on my desk for when I need it. It has addresses, maps, information material, spare pages etc.
Depends on what you mean by family planner: a planner that YOU use for your family, or a planner where everyone in your family puts in their planning. If the latter and you have kids, I'd go for a sturdier filo with a less expensive cover ;-). I am currently using "one on the go" planning/wallet combo, only for appointments, scheduled tasks and quick notes, one main planner (a5) and then several reference binders in which I transfer project pages over that I still need, once the actual "planning" period is over. (3 for 3 different work reference notes, one for garden and flat renovation projects, one for career development, one for personal documents and one for health related stuff).
Thanks for your answers! I`m here the master of disaster. :-) I´m waiting for my filos, one Finsbury in A4, to stay at home, with all dates from all of us, 4 people and two dogs :-), my lists and projcts, invitations, current subject of the schools, club news and hobbies. And there will come a Finsbury in personal for my purse with calendar and notes. On my writing desk lives s filofax Portland with addresses, important notes, cards inside. I'm really excited!
Does anybody know of A5 binders that have the rings slightly off center (i.e. not on the spine of the organiser)? I know of Chronoplan, but that has different ring spacing. And my DiBerardino, but other than that I have been unsuccessful on the internet.
The rings on the organiser in the Malden iPad case (now discontinued) are attached to the back cover (plastic) instead of the spine. Generally they would normally use D shaped rings for that sort of binder
Time Manager (TMI) A5 has the ring mech attached to a card rather than the spine. It's rings are D-shaped to ensure pages always stay flat. However, the spacing is Filofax Personal rather than Filofax A5.
As I have replaced my Franklin pocket binder with a leather cover without rings or strings I trimmed thin notebooks for my cover. I will draw my original weekly layout on the lined sheets but the daily space is smaller than that of my insert for the binder. The top and bottom margins are not equal and some sheets of the notebook were upside down. I removed the staples, rearranged the pages and stapled the paper again. It is probably an uncommon occurrence. I am using two of them for one year.
At the end of the year I may write highlights and other important events in a separate notebook instead of maintaining all pages because the paper is thin and the inscription is not a work of art.

ReplyDeleteDo you mean putting personal inserts in to a senior size?
DeleteFirstly the ring spacing isn't the same.....
Secondly the height of the organiser would be the same height as the pages... about 170mm
Width of an unwidened wouldn't be an issue because those inserts are 140mm by 95mm

Ooops. That would be VDS Senior!
ReplyDeleteHow many Filos do you have in use, which are and for what?
ReplyDeleteAnd do you think a filo e can be used as a family planner
