Free for All Friday No. 625 by Nan
Fifteen years ago, on October 31, 2005, the elusive "Original Philofaxer" wrote about his decision to abandon electronic organizing and return to paper.
The following year, I grew tired of constantly troubleshooting my Palm Pilot, returned to paper myself, and, in search of a community of like-minded souls, asked to join the blog.
A few years later, I recruited Steve and Laurie to help me write posts. Then Steve recruited Anita and Ray.
I just want to thank everyone, especially Steve "Mr Philofaxy," who brought the blog to its full potential and created the enormous community that grew up around it on Facebook, YouTube, and so many other sites.
Steve and so many others have given so much to create the joyful, loving community we have today, and I salute you all!

ReplyDeleteI’ve been reading Philofaxy since the very early days with Philofaxer, having discovered it on a search. It was very different then! I have learned a huge amount over the years (and contributed a few posts too!).
ReplyDeleteBlogs aren’t nearly as popular as they once were and some regular contributors are no longer involved. I would encourage readers not to just regard the Philofaxy blog as a free resource (which it very much is) but to contribute too, by writing a post and spreading the workload - which remains, much of the time, on the shoulders of Steve!
I found it by accident about 6 years ago. I have found useful tips and ideas over that time on how to make the best use of my planner/s. Thank you for all the info.
ReplyDeleteThis blog is a beacon of excellence and a font of knowledge and I feel privileged to not only have met Steve at a meet up, but to have been welcomed into such a warm community of friends over the years.I can honestly say that my life has changed for the better because of Philofaxy and friendships forged. Thank you Steve for all your marvellous work and also Alison for being the support team in France. Happy Anniversary to the blog and may there be many many more. xxxx
ReplyDeleteI discovered the blog in late 2012, as I was debating purchasing a Filofax Calypso (orange) or Original (racing green) at a local shop (now closed). I had never heard of the brand and it came up in my searches.
ReplyDeleteI’ve stuck around for international camaraderie of planning, great information and enthusiasm. I even had the privilege of meeting Nan, Steve and Many others as a meet up.
This blog is a breath of fresh air in a sometimes polluted world. I love the wealth of information provided and the focus on using paper and beautifully made organizers to help us with our lives. And I always look forward to the Silent Sundays photography.
ReplyDeleteIn late 2014, I googled “paper planning,” because I was tired of digital planning. I had tried lots of apps and actually felt more disconnected from my goals and projects. I realized that Filofax still existed, was still in use by many people and “planner community” was a thing. With a brand new Cherry Red Personal size Filofax Finsbury, I fell into the rabbit hole vía YouTube, then Instagram, then finally Facebook. I think each social site took me a tier deeper into this new world. Now, I’m committing to the Franklin Planner system in Classic size for 2021 but the Filofax will always have my heart.
ReplyDeleteI think I discovered this blog reading about it on Plannerisms :) Both cemented my love for paper planning and caused me to buy many planners and filofaxes that were never originally in my plans... :O What I learned? To appreciate small things in life a little more not just big milestones, while reading about lives of other fellow filofaxlovers. Because every filofax comes with its owner who has his/her story to tell.

Back in 2009, I started searching for something like a refillable leather notebook & came across Philofaxy, along with Filofax.

ReplyDeleteWhen Philofaxy started, I was on electronic planning with a Psion Series 5mx Pro, after using some Epoc Mobile Phones. After 10 years of trying to get used to electronic planning, it still did not feel quite right, so I switched back to paper planning in 2011. That was my start of regularly visiting Philofaxy.
I found this blog around 2011 when I got my first Filofax a Filofax raspberry chameleon in personal size.. that was quickly followed by an a5 and there the obsession began.. at the time there was only a handful of YouTube videos or blogs around that were Filofax related.. this blog was like finding a Filofax encyclopaedia! It was heaven... thanks Steve for keeping it going and for all you have done in the planner community

ReplyDeleteI’ve enjoyed this blog for many years. It is to bad Filofax has degenerated into a mere shadow of what it once was. For years I used a 12 month divider set, but used to make my own pages. Since they discontinued that, I have had no choice but to discontinue my FILO use, but still enjoy the blog.

ReplyDeleteNot sure when I started reading this blog. I think it was around 2011. The blog was brought to my atention by Judith when I bought her purple Malden. And so the journey begins. I still enjoy reading the blog. My favorite are still the diaries and the web finds. Keep up with the good work!!
