Since swapping from A5 to Personal size and effectively starting from a blank page I've really been enjoying using my organiser.
ReplyDeleteNaturally I started with the diary insert, which took a while to settle on, but the two days per page with tasks format suits me fine, yes it divides the week in to two views, but that fits with my normal weeks anyway.
I've restrained myself from adding lots of other pages just because I can! So far so good. I've added some essential information and some pre-printed forms that I use on a regular basis but I've not gone too mad.
The other recent change is I now only use a pencil to enter things in to the diary, it makes changing entries much easier!
Speaking of changing/erasing: Did anyone try these Eternal/Infinity Pencils or erasable Gel Pens together with inserts?
DeleteHans
Yes I have used the Frixion pens a few years ago. I still have a few, but if you don't use them they do seem to dry up over time. Also if you leave them in day light the ink does fade.
DeleteI've never come across the Eternal/Infinity pencil before.
I'm using a mechanical pencil which fits my pen loops just fine.
I used a dotted bound book last year and have gone into a A5 Filofax this year with some bought inserts from Crossbow Planner which are great. But a month in there is a lot of blank white space and so I’m thinking that personal size or B6 will be more space efficient.
DeleteI have my diary in a pocket meeplus which is working really well - week on a page. But I like a bigger daily scheduler and to-do/ habit/ project tracker that I maintain to have a month or two set up in advance.
I overbought at the end the of last year and I have a hobonichi cousin for 2026 that I’ve converted to 2027 using stickers and tipex (which was surprisingly relaxing) so 2027 will be a decision- hobonichi or smaller ring bound inserts.
(As an aside, I keep calling the hobonichi a hobochini thus turning an iconic Japanese brand into a minor Italian one!!)
I use frixion pens and/or pencil that I can rub out when trialling new layouts but I haven’t tried gel pens or infinity pencils yet.
I find this pen really useful - OLIGHT O'Pen Mini 2 (note model 2).
ReplyDeleteA handy pocket size, fits the smaller pen loops, nice black ink and an 'everlasting' pencil in the top. Comes with two spare refills, so maybe not eternal and Olight are honest enough to add: *Please note: The pencil tip does not last forever.
The pencil shortens by only 1.46mm after 600m of writing (so will probably see most of us out)!
Any idea how these ever lasting pencils work?
DeleteI'm not falling for that!😉
DeleteMagic, maybe?
AI says “Everlasting or inkless pencils work by using a specialized metal alloy tip—often containing bismuth and other metals—that leaves a silver-colored, pencil-like mark on paper without needing to be sharpened. The tip oxidizes the paper's surface upon contact, wearing down so slowly that it can last for years”.
DeleteI don't know how these work, either. Sounds too crazy to grasp it.
DeleteBut after a few searches, I found a video pointing out that there are models that come in a fountain-pen like shell, including an eraser inside. Then I found these on Amazon. You can try to replace the top level domain with your favourite one and see whether the producht can be found there.

At that price, I'll just give it a try. And if it does not work as a pen, I think you could as well use it as Kubotan.

Thanks Lucy I will have to buy one to try it out.
DeleteBeing a copyist-obsessed with Filofax refills, I am wondering what type of paper does Filofax use in their original lined refills (Ref. 133008)? Recently, I have managed to design a template in Word that is almost identical to those mentioned (involves tricking with line thickness, making them 1/4pt, and carefully adjusting the height of the top zone). But I find myself pondering whether the point is in the paper thickness itself; it seems like the original paper is not ordinary 80gsm. Filofax paper thickness is quite a mystery for me because my "Minimal Week on Two Pages" refill has a rather thin paper, which I can't say about Ref. 133008.
ReplyDeleteIs it true that pencil can smudge so easily between the pages? Asked by a ballpoint pen user who till now didn't dare...
ReplyDeleteI've not noticed any issues, I guess it depends on the hardness of the lead used. I'm using a standard HB lead in my mechanical pencil.
DeleteThanks for your reply, Steve. I guess you don't use any highlighters in your diary section? May I ask your solution to make some entries pop out?
DeleteI just underline entries that are urgent or critical to be done that day. Not that I have many of those. But it tends to work when I do.
DeleteIf you count and weigh a stack of pages, the area of each is defined so you would be able to calculate a good estimate of the actual gsm figure.
