Free for All Friday No. 909 by Nan

What are some of the ways the calendar or diary in your organizer could be saving you money? I can think of a few:

- Note date that bills are due so you can pay them without incurring late fees

- Note date that subscriptions renew so you can cancel them before getting charged for another year

- Keep lists of things you need to purchase so you can keep an eye on when special offers appear

- Note last return date for items you purchase so you won't miss getting a refund if you want

- Record purchases on the day they occur so you can see where your money is going (and think about how you want to change that!)

As always on Friday, all discussion related to ring-bound organizers is welcome!

  1. Attempts to soften up the leather on my two Winchesters continue... Took one, and sprayed it liberally with a water-based leather furniture cleaner & lanolin feed, rubbed it a bit and then put it in a polythene bag. Repeated a couple of times.

    Maybe getting a bit softer...?

Concerned about the ring mechanism going rusty, I took it out. It was already a bit rusty (obviously not recent). But the binder then miraculously plopped flat...

Cleaned up the ring mechanism, and reassembled with a little petroleum jelly. It came with one tab missing, but it opens okay with just one. Took the binder out of the bag, dried it and gave it a conditioning with Lord Sheraton, and left it overnight. Buffed up this morning, and clipped the rings back in place.

The leather is still quite stiff, but the binder now springs flat when opened...

Filofaxes saving you money...? Not if you collect the damned things...

  2. I diarise when I’m going to drive through a congestion charge zone and when fee has to be paid by to make sure I don’t forget to pay it given it’s not a regular thing I do. £5 per day to go into Oxford city centre now but the fine is much bigger.
