So we are in to the last couple of weeks of December, you are all preparing for Christmas no doubt.... but a question for you....
Are you sticking with your current set up in your organiser for next year or have you decided on a different one?
But since it's Friday, all topics are welcome!
My 2014 is a 1PPD, so next year I decided to do a 2PPD set up. Lots of writing space! I just wish there are more 2inch-binders/planners to accommodate a year's worth of pages.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying out a two planner system. One pocket and one personal. The pocket for daily tasks and reminders. The personal for blogging related matters. But I now feel there's a bit of wasted space on the WO2P in the blog planner. So... I may move it into another pocket. Or go back to using one planner again. I suppose finding the right combination is part of the fun.
ReplyDeleteSticking with what has worked for me the most this year and that has been the DIYFish inserts.
ReplyDeleteWith more tasks involved ona daily basis I had just moved from my holborn slimline to my regency compact, but with December I decided for more additional pages to move into my Personal Kensington. The set-up however works for me year at a glance + M2P + WPP + 1PPD. That gives me three levels of focusing either on the big picture or simply concentrating on the very day ahead. This needs 3 entries of the same event in my planner but with different level of detail. So when I look into the year view, I know where my holidays are, within the month I see hiw busy I will be or where I still have time on my hands. In the week view I can see all my appointments for two weeks and in my daily view I have it all appointments, tasks, needed phone numbers, names, locations. Within my personal I keep 1year of 1MP2P +half a year of 1WPP + 1 month of 1PPD. For next year I'm only up for minor changes whilst my system stays active.
ReplyDeleteAfter printing a whole year of do1p I think I have decided that do1p is not for me. I've ordered some wo2p from Qimmis and will be using those in my personal and A5. I also have a project life scrapbook planner/journal set that is going into my A5. Hopefully I can make this the perfect setup for me.
ReplyDeleteAfter a lot of thought, I have decided to move from my personal to an A5 as this just seemed the best option for my current needs. Instead of a week on two pages, I will be using a day per page, allowing lots more room for in-depth planning. In addition, my recent blog post describes my discovery of the Spiraldex - ( http://myfilofaxfixation.wordpress.com/2014/12/18/spiraldex-a-new-way-of-planning/ ) , which is a visual system - allowing clear and simple organisation. So I will also be experimenting with this during 2015 :)
ReplyDeleteI will be continuing my 2 binder set-up which I started at the end of November. My A5 stays at home and is my command central as well as my notebook, reference and hobbies workbook. I'll be playing around with the planner pages in here to find my perfect diary set-up. This will be complimented by my senior/A6 VDS which will be my on-the-go planner, mainly for when I'm at work (but not used for work planning). It will have a WO1P plus notes diary for work times and important things that will occupy my time outside of work (just in case my boss asks me if I can work a certain day extra, or a friend asks if I can go out on a certain evening), a bullet journal section, reference pages, and my 'Current' organisation lists so I know what's on my plate at the moment, at a glance (a filtered down version of my A5, because I just need to know basically what I've got to keep in mind currently when I'm on the go, so my in detail lists can stay at home in my A5).
ReplyDeleteBut in September when I hopefully start my new uni course I'll be switching to having everything for planning and notes in my A6/Senior VDS, with DIY Fish inserts probably, but definitely with at least Day Per Page inserts :)
Any recommendations for a DPP or WO2P diary for A5, that is fountain pen friendly? I read the review of the Mont Blanc diary this week, very interesting and looks high quality. Also Steve's review of the Exatimer 21, but I'm not keen on re-punching a whole year of DPP!
ReplyDeleteTo my chagrin, I think I"m going to stick with the same one.
ReplyDeleteWell, I thought I had hit on the best setup in 2014, using only a mini size, and I had every intention of sticking with that for 2015. However, having got Ray to make me a "you know what", I've decided to start 2015 "ringless" if you know what I mean. But.....it could all change.
ReplyDelete2014 was DO2P DIYfish in personal, for 2015 I will be returning to FC classic DO2P
ReplyDeleteI looked at DIY fish inserts, but there seemed way too much overhead in self-printing and cutting and punching (for Personal). If I'm paying that sort of money, I'm really expecting to buy the product, not have to do it myself, but I accept that's not everyone's viewpoint. I had a good look at a few videos but I couldn't help thinking it was a re-invention of the TMI concept, which I think has to be one of the best systems invented for a paper-based Organiser. If TMI would just bite the bullet and produce their inserts in standard FF Personal, I'd be very happy indeed.
DeleteYes, the download cost more than what I pay for inserts that are already done. The time, cost of paper, ink, hole punch, and paper cutter and then more time to fill in holidays really made last year an expensive endevour. This year, bought, shipped, placed in binder for a fraction of the cost and headache. Plus side, they are already decorated. I want to use my time on pursuing goals and making things happen, not making pages. (I know it is a personal choice so I don't want to receive a million hate e-mails.)
DeleteI think that DIYfish makes much more sense in A5 or half-letter, as there is so much less cutting to do. Conceptually, I love the DIYfish pages but when I have tried to use them I become overwhelmed with too many views. Overly-complex systems do not work for me. I am also a perfectionist so any slight error folding or cutting or punching would drive me to distraction!
DeleteI too have the perfectionist ailment and it has been screaming for a year. Hoping 2015 is a quieter year!
DeleteI bought the trial version of the DIY fish inserts, and I do like them very, very much, but after thinking about buying a year's worth--I agree with Paul about the cost. I do like the do2p set-up, though, so I think I'm going to experiment with the free diary inserts here on Philofaxy. I like the setup of the undated pages.
DeleteThis past year I bought several week inserts to use and modify. In the summer I switched to my Franklin pocket binder and found a personal size lined Wo2P insert that I like. Then I drew a smaller version of the Filofax A5 Time Management week one which is nifty in a pocket binder. For 2015 I have my lined Wo2P insert that includes a Mo2P calendar. I trimmed and punched the pages. I also keep three months of my small TM pages. I may use each week insert for a distinct purpose instead of using one for everything. My TM pages have 4 or 5 lines for each day. I can only fit that number of timed items in my Schedule column but I could write more appointments in the second column. One benefit is that I can draw more pages when I need them. In 2015 I do not intend to buy any inserts for my binder. I want to design my TM pages on the computer and perhaps some other layouts.
ReplyDeleteI would love to use the same setup, but in the US it is OUT OF STOCK. Why be in the planner business if just when people need them, they are OUT OF STOCK??? They have been OUT OF STOCK on 6 tab dividers since JULY. What a screwed up company. The Filofax brand is pathetic.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I've been through all the EU sites I can find, and I can't get the dividers you wanted - sorry. I won't dwell on this because I'll get barred from the site here, but suffice to say I agree with you completely.
DeleteI'm staying with wo2p for my work planner but adapting a Philofaxy template to make my own for 2015. I'm adding a mo1p at the start of each month. Occasional undated daily pages in between weeks for days when I have a lot to do.
ReplyDeleteFor awhile this year I used the FC vertical weekly pages with the Blooms design but abandoned them because the background design obscured my writing too much. After trying various options (and ending up using 5 different books at once!) I realized I really do need to use my Filofax as my all in one book. So I ordered the Monticello (white background) inserts from the US and paid an enormous amount of postage but it will be worth it to have what I need.
ReplyDeleteI decided back in June that I wanted to try the time management inserts from filofax uk in my A5 for 2015. I usually get the wo1p with notes (absolutely love these for my A5), month on two pages for both A5 and pocket and wo2p in cotton cream for the pocket.
ReplyDeleteI hope the TM inserts work well. I'll know if I need to change back by February. One side note: I was in a hurry to order my weekly diary in pocket and mistakenly ordered the one with the tiny weekend slots! Ugh. I'm too lazy to return / exchange them by mail. I just hope the reduced space doesn't bug me too much.
Any tips on using the Time Management inserts for work?
I’m continuing with the system I came up with last summer which seems to work pretty well. I use four classic/A5 sized 1” ring binders that live on a shelf over my desk: 1 for financial registers, one for goals and projects, one for A-Z reference, and one for health notes and meal planning. Then I use a spiral or perfect bound annual agenda as my daily carry, with Plannerpad insta-pockets so I can keep current pages with me (like weekly food log and health tracker pages, vital #s, goal lists, etc.). I really like the 18 month planners as I use the extra 6 months of pages for lists and notes. So I’m going ahead with that system for 2015. However I still feel anxiety over not having that “One Book,” though it’s pretty clear to me now why every binder I tried to use got too big and heavy to carry
ReplyDeletePlanning to stay in my Personal size Saffiano with Wo2P inserts. A running task list and blank lined page or two for notes, doodles, or a brain dump. Unscheduled accomplishments and daily recap on the insert page. I'll continue to archive my dated pages, but can throw out the finished task list. Also, will try to write only in black and use colors sparingly. Too much color is distracting. Found that out the hard way.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if the Filofax mini is being phased out? I can't get a nice red one to replace my old one that's just broken.
ReplyDeleteI have a red mini Piccadilly, but i am not using it. If you want it, you can have it :)
DeleteHow thoughtful. Where are you? I am in the UK, Essex.
DeleteI live in Denmark :) My email is mianmimia@gmail.com, you can email your address to me and I can easily send the filofax to you :) If you have any questions about the Piccadilly, I'm happy to answer them :)
DeleteI designed my own inserts in 2014 and I would occassionally change them to reflect my changing needs but I am generally v happy with them and will continue my a5 set up into 2015
ReplyDeleteI have used a Dodo Pad in various sizes since 2012, with an A5 in my most recent 'Filoflex'. I'm starting a new job in January and I won't need to compartmentalise my time so much (more regular working patterns etc) so the boxes in a Dodo Pad seem rather wasteful. Additionally, I won't need to always carry around my two notebooks. I've decided to take out my rings from my 'Filoflex' and use one notebook and one Moleskine weekly diary.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how I like the layout of the Moleskine (and my Coleto pen doesn't seem to much like it either) but without actually getting into the New Year its hard to tell.
If I can't make it work, I'm considering printing a Pretty Organised diary and binding it myself. I did really have my heart set on a silly Korean undated scheduler with a rabbit character called Moland, but its a shade smaller than A5 and I suppose one of the adventages of the Moleskine is I can match notebook size to it!
Clearly I've got the itch. I've just ordered myself a Mr.Babba undated planner from S. Korea. I've always been impressed with paper quality on Korean stationary and the design is so simple both inside and out. I think I can have a lot of fun with the cover and customising the interior. Cheap enough for me to not fret if the Moleskine does work out.
Deletep.s. thinking if converting my 'house-o-fax' (containing meal plans, recipesbank stuff, boring bill stuff, wedding stuff, decorating plans etc) currently in an unknown grey/black A5 into a new fangled Clipbook. Am going to see if the stationers do any good deals in January - the current incarnation does not get any love, things just get shoved it and forgotten about!
