  1. I guess this is an age old question.
I use the Filofax more as a notebook than a planner. I find the Personal size too cumbersome to write in (the rings get in the way) and the A5 too big to carry everywhere. Can’t think of a solution to this (writing in landscape mode is one option). Can’t give up using the Filofaxes either. Has anyone found a middle path?

    1. I get your pain. Have you considered trying a book-by-book system rather than rings? (Sorry Steve!) Systems like the X47 or the Taschenbegleiter are much more compact and easier to carry around, and you can write on almost the whole area of each page. They do lack some of the flexibility of ring systems, but can be practical in other ways.

    2. I use a disc-bound William Hannah A6 notebook for this sort of thing. It's very compact and with the small discs easy to write on both sides of the paper.

      Details posted here: https://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2023/02/william-hannah-a6-notebookplanner-long.html

    3. @Graham — I have tried TNs and similar systems (have hoarded more than I can dare to admit, it's a fetish), but the Filofax is the most flexible and convenient system. I'll try using A6 inserts in the Personal.
@Steve — the WH A6 looks interesting, will try to source one (am in India).

    4. Sorry if this is a duplicate entry, am getting an error when I comment.

@Graham — I have tried multi-notebook systems, including Travellers Notebook and similar ones, but keep coming back to the Filofax, it is the most convenient and flexible

@Steve — thanks, will check out the William Hannah A6, if I can manage to source it (am in India).

  2. Slit your pages so that you remove them for ease of writing? Use fold-outs? Try A6?

  3. Writing on the other side of the rings in personal I find difficult and wastes paper. Pocket is impossible to use the back face of paper, I'm right handed. It's why I'm thinking of getting an A5 for work so I can realistically use the paper for more taking, bullet journalling, etc.

  4. On another topic, what use do you find for filofax pockets?

I have a personal metropol and store blank, lined paper pad in the right side mesh pocket so I can get pages quickly to put in the relevant section when needed. The card pockets I put in my covid vaccination cards so I didn't lose them but not needed now so the fact they're still in there means I've got no use for them. Credit cards are in a tiny, leather card, licence and notes holder type wallet as I don't carry my filofax everywhere.

In my bullet journal my notebook rear pocket carries stickers I don't use, work passwords and something else that's no longer important. I just wonder what use the pockets are as they're small.
