Free For All Friday - No.870 by Steve

I realised the other week two mind blowing facts....

This year is the 20th year I have used a Filofax organiser (or other brand) on a daily basis...

2026 will be 40 years since I started using one. I used it for 5-6 years and then drifted in to using electronic PDA's of one sort or another, only to return to a Filofax in 2005.

I think I should request a cake to celebrate.... any excuse!

As it is Friday please feel free to discuss anything Filofax or cake related!

  2. Happy Filofax anniversary!
    Which cake would you have?

Yes, that is a lot of time, but sounds like it's working for you as you've stayed with them for so long. I bought my first one back in 2009 & whilst I haven't used one on a daily basis since then, it's been pretty close.

  3. I edge just slightly ahead Steve ~ found Daytimers whilst working in USA in 1984. All my American colleagues were advocates, so I joined them. Used something or other since then, dove tailing PDAs, tablets & mobiles/smartphones along the way. Not working these days but still using my A5 Holborn as my go to daily, with a personal Dorchester as its support. So Happy Anniversary to US!

  4. I got my first one in 2007 by accident really. I was moving divisions at work and as a thank you the team PA let me order whatever I wanted from the stationary catalogue….she could raise the PO! In it was a personal cross in red leather, I kept asking if she was sure it was okay and she just got it ordered. When it arrived and my colleagues saw it there was almost a mini revolt as I had been given special treatment but I didn’t care as it was the most amazing thing, I absolutely loved it. I took it into my new role and have used them ever since. Still have it and use it as a food diary. It was a lovely gesture I haven’t forgotten.

    1. Heat has mashed my brain…it it a Classic in cherry.

    2. The Classic seems to be merely a renaming of the Cross (in 2006). Otherwise, the design is identical. In fact, the product codes are identical... So your mistake is both trivial and understandable...

    3. I’ve never been sure about whether they are different or not! Brilliant, thank you Kevin.

  5. My first encounter with Filofax - or more accurately Lefax at that time, was in 1981. I drifted into Time Manager, then into electronic organisers (I had an HP PDA before they became incorporated into smartphones), but returned to Filofax when I bought a Hampstead in WH Smith in Newbury some time in 2000. I've used one every say since then.

    1. In fact the Filofax I'm carrying today is the same Hampstead Personal. 25 years young....

  6. Happy Anniversary!

I only managed to keep it up for two years.

  7. Like others, Lefax was my gateway drug in the early 80s. My Filofax addition has been chasing the high of those amazing Lefax catalogues that I couldn't afford at the time.
