One 'old' brand that quietly continues to produce organisers is Collins (Collins Debden). I spotted a few of their binders discounted in TK Maxx the other day. One had a soft cover, with compact rings, and a nice stencil. The binder barely extended beyond the inserts, which, along with the ~16mm rings, made it really rather compact. But I opted for a £1.70 Pocket instead...
